Between finding cool stuff I didn’t know I “needed” and convincing me to buy stuff I find myself you are a real drain on my finances…

You can only argue with yourself for so long before one side is going to win a one side is going to lose. Usually the wrong side loses. It’s been my observation that most people regret what they did not do! So..

What else are you going to do with a couple $K
1. Spend it traveling?
2. Spend it eating and drinking?
3. Save it? For what?
4. Buy a new gun?

Experiential stuff is enjoyable but there is a lot more input cost than meets the initial cost estimate. There is planning, arranging, getting pissed off when the plan breaks, rolling the dice for good weather, dealing with other peoples schedules, tastes, interests, and travel quirks. It’s all overrated!!

I try not to collect and I do that by giving away very usable goods to people I like that are much younger and will have a lot of opportunity to enjoy. Then when I look at my gun and hunting and fishing inventory I smile and have no guilt adding something new.

That’s just my take

Actually fringe buckskin was widely worn in the old west. Was windproof in the winter and dried very fast when wet.

But I don't have any of it. All my clothing and gear is leftovers from when I owned my small ranch and I'm rediscovering it. I've had to buy new pants because back then there was a bit more me, but all leather, hats, boots and other traps are in perfect condition and ready for my next horse which should be happening shortly.

Now good ol'Teddy was a man of means coming from a wealthy family and he LOVED custom guns and fancy gear and could afford just about anything he wanted at the time. All his guns were special order from the likes of Winchester and Colt and his clothing/gear came from famous outfitters like Abercrombie and Fitch when the catered to rich "adventurers" before they became a snowflake clothing emporium. The chaps he's wearing in this picture seem to be sealskin.

SW NV does not have a buckskin friendly climate.

I almost fell over laughing at some touristos I’m thinking likely from New Jersey and didn’t care much for girls trying to put on their never worn leather chaps for a mule ride into the Grand Canyon. Hint: the guides on the mule trip don’t wear chaps because it’s damn near 100 degrees at the bottom. The scene turned to a slapstick show the attempting to board the mules from the wrong side in their new chaps.

We were doing a 1 day run to the river and back down the South Kiabab and back on Bright Angel sans mules.

Oh I know where I am nowadays, I also know that not one hour from me there was snow on the ground into early June last year and I'm within an easy shot of Souther Utah and Norther Arizona where the temps are a LOT more winter friendly and there is a ton of snow. Like I said I don't have any buckskin fringe anything nowadays, but I do have two sets of Chinks (working and Sunday) and and all the winter gear a ski bum needs because I spent a fair amount of time last summer on the slopes (again some locals and some in Utah) and intend to do MORE this coming season.

My life is absolutely not bound by the valley and I'm actually a LOT more active and mobile in the Winter. The higher elevations are cool all year and the no-tent camping I just did in August was low 50s at night brother.

But PLEASE let everyone you know that Nevada is just one big desert extension of Death Valley with temps running over 110 all year long.

That seems to keep away the weak...

And as an FYI from where you were in Goldfield it under 2 hrs to Bishop (except in winter) which is deep in the Sierras.

Great fishing in the lakes north of Bishop in the spring.

I need to head up in that direction. I now have good friends in Carson City so I have a really good reason to travel farther north.
