I thought about that. It would give me more distance for yotes than my .22 Mag and .17 HMR that pull Kubota Duty now.
I’ve just never shot one before and have zero idea of the cartridges capability. He did leave me a bunch of factory ammo for it.

Yeah, you should definitely try out the Hornet. I've got a wildcat K Hornet Ruger 77/22 that's a really nice rifle inside of 150 yards. Probably 250 yards for you!

My old hunting buddy used to hunt coyotes with one out to 200 yards with zero issues. Monet damage. They’re not hard to kill when you can shoot, and I’m kind’a sure you can. Just a hair more noise than my .22 Mag. Rather nicely behaved center fire.

SOME can be picky about bullets and loads but once dialed in they behave. I remember my buddy said .10 grains was the difference between a group and a pattern. Might have been his rifle though.

I helped the widow of one of my coworkers disperse his guns after his passing of heart & diabetes issues, making effort to ensure she didn't get taken to the cleaners on them. I was able to lay claim to a Fankensteined 1911 that he and I assembled from an Argentine frame and Norinco parts kit he had accumulated. I break it out occasionally when I feel the jones for shooting a basic 1911-A1 - or just want to remember the guy. Might be your buddy's stock 10/22 would fill the same sort of niche.

The Hornet is something that may grow on you. Bullet weight will depend a lot on rate of twist - the older guns being slow and best suited to light pills. It can be a fussy, powder-sensitive bitch (I'd say try 4227 and AA1680 and not bother with much else), but it will give more steam than a .22 Mag and be reloadable to boot. You being the resident suppressor expert - my guess is that the lower gas volume would make it a pretty cool thing to shoot through a 5.56-rated can, if you were to have it threaded.
