Well, there’s a dumb idea. I mean it worked, but is still dumb, and didn’t work all that well as far as comfort and technique. But I could get a little better sight picture.

So there’s 25 yards. More than acceptable. I only tried it with the goofy rear-pod, not the normal way. Could have got it better shooting correctly.

So upper right group was CCI minimag target, the rest Aguila super extra. They are about the “cheapest” .22 you can get these days. Which is awesome, cause they seemed to shoot the best. .80-ish groups at 50.

Rests were pretty much a no go, at least the front rest I had. Gun is way too skinny for the bag I have. Bipod and bag was the way. Length of pull with the extension is compact but doable. Without it would be pretty much impossible to be serious. The main issue is the scope placement, it’s as far forward as it can go with that mount. So you could somewhat comfortably settle in, then have to move your head back to get a sight picture. One piece base could help with that, but would block access to the chamber for loading. But I could always wack out a chunk of the rail to allow better access.

Overall rating? Considering what it is and who it’s designed for, 10/10. Can’t beat it for a kids first rifle. Much better than the Cricket, there’s no working the bolt and then operating a knob to cock. It works like a regular bolt gun should.

2.5 to 4.4 pound adjustable trigger. Not really creepy. While the accutrigger isn’t the best trigger, for most people who aren’t snobs and especially for kids, it’s hard to beat. Crappy triggers on guns made for kids with weak fingers are dumb. I’m going to tweak it, because I’m me.

Bolt operation is pretty dang smooth. There’s a little “hitch” when pushing it forward over the single shot feed ramp as the bolt nose pushes it down. That’s me being picky. It may get removed. I find it easier to just place the round into the chamber and run it. Removing that part would “fix” that, not too mention it’s in the way of my barrel clamp chassis idea. You can’t just toss a round in the chamber and it magically centers itself so you can close it. It needs to be in the groove on the ramp. I do prefer this over mag fed for the purpose of this rifle, and especially for kids. Unless it’s a 10-22 mag, most .22 mags, especially Savage mags are pretty meh. And you need to stop your shooting to load mags. With this I can sit at the bench with a bucket of ammo and shoot without ever breaking form. It’s very relaxing to shoot this way.

Overall finish isn’t horrible, above average for blue jobs these days. If you expect bluing from the 1950s, move along till you drop 4 times the cash. What impressed me was the interior receiver finish. VERY smooth. 10 times better than my Ruger American .308. Which is disgusting, for a $700 rifle. And better than the Ruger American .22 I used to own.

I think theirs more precision hiding within, of course ammo selection is paramount with .22s. Hell it liked the cheaper stuff better than the more expensive stuff. I don’t think the stock is limiting the potential a ton, other than of course the tiny size. It’s a pretty sturdy stock for Tupperware.

Heck even for adults I’d give it a 10/10. The non-heavy barrel version would make a slick backpack gun, super simple, super light and compact.

You have me thinking about the standard barrel one, with a folding stock/chassis, and a QD optic.... Interesting.

No QD, but a small pistol type RDS. Wouldn’t take up much room. And be super light.

My Ruger charger will wear a RDS, pondering removing the one from my 19 clone to put on it. It’s not shake awake, which I’ve learned is dumb after having a shake awake. Move that to the charger, put a new one on the 19.
Of course…none of the cool ones fit that footprint I cut the slide for.

Seems like you could clamp the back of the barrel into a block with a square exterior, and that square exterior could be dimensioned to fit inside a chunk of perforated square tubing - kind of like the stuff they mount street signs on - which would serve as your forend and allow attachment to benchrests and the like.

Lower half of said block could extend rearward so that it cradles both the barrel and the action. Hog out the stock so that it's just a handle and bed that assembly in. Stock would remain pink and purple to retain its origin vibe.

Considering where you seem to be trying to go with this, maybe use the threads on the muzzle for a barrel tuning weight. Rimfire ammo is always going to be the variable you'll have the least control over, so once you deaden and isolate everything else, barrel tuning would be your only practical recourse.

That’s too redneck. I think the color is hilarious, and the stock is cute. But, the easy thing is build a chassis and then…paint it pink.

A one piece scope base which they make will solve the issue of scope placement, and it’ll only make loading a little more annoying. And if the factory one piece base isn’t long enough, it’s a piece of cake to make a new one. Blank pic rail plus CNC in my garage equals whatever mount I need.
Hell I made a mount for a bolt action Mossberg .410 shotgun. I think this one would be cake.

Yeah the barrel tuner idea crossed my mind. But, it NEEDS a suppressor. But I suppose I’d rather have it more precise than quiet.

I was just about to pull the trigger on a charger for a full time Jeep gun but damn this guy with an RDS and a small can might be the way to go!!! If there’s no $200 pay to play, why not cut the barrel to 12” and build a shroud type suppressor over the barrel?

Have to push the barre clamp forward. Not enough meat would be left if it goes under the base. Upside is I don’t have to deal with the feed ramp. (Red plastic bit)

Current plan is to build the chassis, and test. If it’s not satisfactory, barrel will get pulled. Or pushed, rather. Pushed out. Cut it back slightly and rechamber. The reamer I made worked awesome on another barrel. So, it’s free to do. It will either get pressed back in, or most likely I’ll thread the action and barrel so that I can swap barrels easily at some point in the future. I’ve got a couple blanks from Tennmike, I may install one of those.
Side note, I miss the hell out of that guy. This would be right up his alley.

I miss him a lot also. The .357 mag single shot rifle he made me is a prized possession. We never got to the .22 project we talked about.

You know, one of those Primary Arms Micro-Prism scopes would probably be a good fit for the size of that rifle.

Maybe I need to go pick one of those up when the dad cash fund gets replentished.

If you’re just wanting a handy dandy gun, the thin barreled one would be perfect for that. Just print the extendo cock for the stock.

Just a heads up, those barrels are usually just a slip fit. They make for a nice way to turn a blank and rebarrel. I'll be curious to see what you transform it into either way. That's a great use of the plastic pooping robot.

Good to know. If it goes BACK in easily so I can line up the pin holes, that will save me from threading the receiver.
