That's a great score! I have a 99 f in 308 that I got for a song, I had to clean it and replace the stock. It wears a 2x7 Leupold ,old eyes. It will put three shots touching. When I found it I had to make a choice, A BLR in 7-08 or the Savage.
You'tr going to love that rifle!

You're not wrong. So long as you've got enough sight radius. I bought my second CZ 452 because it had the 29" barrel that put the front sight out where I could sort of get it in focus. My 69A has the Lyman 17A at the end of a 25" barrel and a Merit iris disc screwed into the Lyman peep. That combo is pretty badass, because it's like aiming an HK MP5. . .but with some actual distance between the front and rear sights. Mircometer receiver peep and a filler blank in the barrel slot would look pretty official.
Assuming you can find an old gloss finish Leupold. . . I think the straight tube objective of a 1.5-5x20 would look AWESOME on that rifle. The 2.5-8x36 is kind of my "go to" for a fast-handling gun that nevertheless has 300+ yard legs underneath it.
Either way, I agree - there's style lines you need to stay on the right side of with this gun.

Sort of an edit to my last: How does it carry? The gun has no sling hardpoints (it might be a shame to drill for them), so you're basically letting your horse (or quad) carry it in a scabbard, or you're carrying it at the balance point.
An optic would get in the way of that mode, and a big front sight may or may not be an obstacle to scabbard carry.

I’ve seen several over the years that needed new stocks. The metal wasn’t worth the wood. This one, I’ve already looked at Boyd’s to see about nicer wood. And I might do it eventually. Need to see how it shoots first.

The stocks are drilled for studs. The rear has a stainless stud. Nothing in the front but a hole. I’ll remove the rear and run it sans sling. Again, maybe replace the wood if the barrel warrants it.

I think it would look cool with a peep and globe. Even if I ain’t as accurate as a scope. This is just a nostalgic itch. I don’t anticipate long range shooting with this one. Just accurate enough to fill the freezer at reasonable distances and make me smile.

Either leave it be, or a 2.5 or 4x scope that isnt tacticool, I lean more toward shoot it as is until your eyes say different,
I have a 300 savage 99, if a 250-3000 shows up....

For what I'm guessing is 1960's-'70's stamped checkering into birch, they seem to have done a very nice job fitting it onto the metal. Then again, it's 1960's-'70's stamped checkering into birch.
Tough call... It does at least look sorta correct on there.

Run it like it is, let it get some love marks. Right now it’s perfect for 0-200 yard targets of opportunities off a a side by side of truck. You won’t cry if you get a rub mark on it either…. Get your sights sorted out and run that sucker!

It's about time!! E for economy model, no round counter. Discontinued in 1984.Very solid rifle! I have the marbles sight on five of mine, so............. I love them. Windage adjustable!! Find one in .250-300o, you'll be in heaven!!

I was only interested in .308 or .243 Win in the Savage 99. So, I passed up several other cartridges in the past. Just wasn’t interested in the Savage cartridges.

I’ve wanted a Sharps for a very long time. Just don’t see the cost for one justifying the little usage it would receive. Not saying I would pass up a great deal. I’m just not actively looking for one.
