D2 bladed knife for $10
Re: D2 bladed knife for $10
I ordered a D2 today. They’re hard to find in the 1-2 stores I usually go to.
Re: D2 bladed knife for $10
Well boys you better buy a couple!! These knives are one hell of a deal!!!! If you removed all branding from the knives and asked me to pick them apart, the bench made would probably loose. The Ozark trail, like said before, has full steel liners where the BM has oversized washers up front. The OT knife has a thicker blade, and a nice weight for a pocket knife. The OT knife feels great with a nice subtle texture enough for grip but not enough to wear your pocket. The OT’s clip is stiffer that my BM’s and has a nice profile. If you didn’t know they came from Walmart you would swear it was a lot better, read, expensive knife. The lock spring could be a bit stiffer but for $14.50 with shipping for a D2 steel knife damn it’s good.
The photos are a comparison of the Bugout (orange handle), mini Griptilion (black) and the two ozark trails… for the money the ozark trail WINS EVERY TIME. get back with me in about 6 years to see if it’s held Ila’s good as my griptillion but I’m not really worried about.

I like the dark green and silver blade.
I liken these to the Mora knives. Punch way above their weight, and if you lose one….so what? It’s $10.

I have two, I think, and have gifted three. I need another. I have a motorcycle Mora, a truck Mora, and I need a camper Mora. The local knife store carries them along with fancy stuff, has a rainbow of colors on the counter. Like 10-11 bucks each. I think Ive bought one every time I have went into the shop.

Just ordered an orange one. Also got TP and paper towels to get to $35 so shipping is free.
Re: D2 bladed knife for $10
Ordered mine yesterday afternoon and it came in today. It’s lighter than I anticipated. My BM Mini-Griptillian is heavier. For $10 I ain’t complaining.

My black one came yesterday. My OD one arrives today. My initial opinion is it is what it is. I was not totally blown away by it. It is light, quick to open. I can not flip it open like my old Griptillian. It punches above it's weight, but is not what some other knives are. I currently carry a Kershaw Iridium, and will continue to do so. It is a better knife. The OT has more play in the blade when open. I paid 47 buck for the Kershaw, they now sell for 60ish. I would pay the 47 again not the 60. I think CPJ nailed it. It is a mora. I have oodles of Moras. They are cheap do their job and you don't mind if they break. Never have broken one. If OT can make this and profit at 10 bucks, imagine how Benchmade is f-ing you over for 150 per bugout. Benchmade has every right to make every penny they can, and I have every right not to give them mine.
Bottom line is pending further results I would happily buy one again accepting it is what it is.

By flip it open do you mean using the thumb stud on the blade, or sliding the lock back and flipping ?
If the first, it’s an ergonomic thing. May not fit your hands. I’ve seen people who LOVE Spyderco knives with their horribly designed thumb hole opening. I DESPISE those. Different hands like different things.
If the second and the blade is too tight, you can loosen it up.

Also don’t be afraid to tear it apart. It’s pretty easy to do. Clean the tears from the kids that made it out of the inner workings, and put a drop of light oil on the moving bits. Polish up the stuff that rubs tother.

Both of those options work fine. By flip I mean grap handle and flip open with just inertia. My old griptillian did this fine, my Iridium and voyager do this as well. You simply grab the knife in your pocket pull and flip at same time. It is nearly as fast as a fixed blade. The grip on the Kershaw makes it slightly iffy.CPJ 2.0 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 23, 2025 2:48 pm By flip it open do you mean using the thumb stud on the blade, or sliding the lock back and flipping ?

I will have it apart though. My griptillian benefitted from some de burring and lube. I hate I lost that knife.

They make a great garage shelf/workbench knife. Throw one on the glove box or console. Clean it up like CPJ said and it's good for a kids knifeZsarvashere wrote: ↑Thu Oct 23, 2025 11:04 am My black one came yesterday. My OD one arrives today. My initial opinion is it is what it is. I must be a "kid" then. For the foreseeable future, my orange/black one's going to replace my Boker AK74s as my EDC knife.
.
.
Having carried BenchMade axis lock knives (Griptillian and 710) for as many years as I have, I open them about as fast as pushing the button on the AK74s
Both of the Bokers claim to have D2 blades as well

Re: D2 bladed knife for $10
Got the orange handled version today, $10.77 OTD, opens nice, feels sharp, blade has a bit of play, I will get out the tools tonight when I get home and see if that can be rectified.

Re: D2 bladed knife for $10
Mine has zero lateral play but there was a slight bit of play when the blade was locked but that went away after the lock and blade “worked in” together.
Re: D2 bladed knife for $10
I stopped at the Walmart by work yesterday. They had plenty of silver ones for $7.95. No other colors
