That is so classy! I like it. Ok it's not a double set trigger bit how is it? I would guess clean with a 2.5 lb pull.

It's a very clean break.
Go through the first wall....very easy
Stop at the second wall and it's just snap.

That actually Makes it hard for me to guess at a pull weight.
I think Zee would like it....probably giggle a little.

It's a very short rifle.
20" from tip of barrel to back of receiver ring.

Kind of would have liked if it was 6.5
Found 3 boxes of that and no 7x57


Started taking the stock off and took a couple pictures of the magazine latch.
Along with the butter knife handle a feature I thought was neat.

You were too close to the crack epidemic of the 80s. Butter knife handles are the best.

A first was found on a German gun.
Very stingy on markings.
This may also show how narrow the stock tapers down

I'd get a chamber cast to see if it's a 7 mm. Which is my favorite. Few ex-military mausers were converted to 7mm, so it may be a 30-06. The white line on the pistol grip suggests 50s or 60s. Not a guild gun, I think.

The grip cap is silver Gene It appears to be from about 1923 from Simpson
They made military and commercial

They should have shot Bubba with a broomstick Mauser before he got his screwdriver out!

The screws are easily fixed. I’ve done tons of them on my rescues.

I’m unpacking my books this week and I should be able to find my world proof marks book. That could help.

The B proofmark is definitely German.

Is there any sign of there having been a rear sight mounted on the barrel? By the engraving it was pretty clearly intended to not have a receiver sight on it. . .and it's an American-made (Lyman) receiver sight anyway.

Could probably tell some really good stories.

I bet it could as the rifle has definitely been used.

No sign that I see it is likely a barrel replacement on a simpson gun.

I checked some on a mauser forum and that is the consensus there.

The rifling tells the story since many service barrels were re-contoured to lighten, get rid of the steps and sight holes of the military profile during customizing.

I used calipers at the store to get an idea of what it could be chambered in.

It came out as 7mm there.

God knows I have bullets for anything
So Ize grab one in 7mm to check and whoo Nellie
That is just swimmingly not right.

Go out and get my calipers and yeah not 7mm
Get me a big honking 308 220 RN bullet and that sure "seems" to be it.....for now

From what I'm getting so far.
It was made by Simson in 1923....original build
Everything but the barrel still is.

So at some point yeah probably post WWII it was rebarreled.
