Hopefully I'm not biting more than I can chew. If I run into trouble I figured there are a few guys here with knowledge and skills that can pint me in the right path.

Funny enough I just found my copies of Cartridges of the World and I'm looking... I had a Ruger #1 tropical in .458 Win Mag and that is kind of what I want to recreate except a slightly lighter gun and somewhat lighter recoil.

.458x1.8. Its like a somewhat lighter recoil .458 WM. 400gr Speer at 1800 fps, 350gr Speer at 2150 fps, 300gr Hornady or Speer at 2200 fps (they start getting a bit wild if pushed any faster), or even a 250gr copper at 2350 fps (just over 2600 fps with a different powder). I have not shot my .458 WM with a proper load since 2008, but have used a .458x1.8 as my primary deer rifle for around a decade. Almost forgot about the 576gr ACME at 1100 fps.

If I was going for something styled like an old single shot cartridge but keeping it more modern I would be tempted to go .460 or .500 S&W.

Agree with the above. If that action can handle the pressure a 500 S&W would be awesome!

It would certainly be versatile. I could download to Sharps weights and velocities alll the way to true stomper. AND I already have an El Paso Cartridge belt to carry the rounds :D

I cant wait to see what ill be working with. I can't say 100%, but I'm assuming that you could probably go with any BP cartridge that you wanted to, within reason. Apparently they're popular to do in 45-70 from what info I could find. That alone would be pretty sweet. Ill know more once I get hands on it.

That would mean gearing up for a whole new setup. So, low in the running.

How long have you had this project on the back fire? Cape Outfitters has been out of business for a while.

So I'm thinking anything 50 caliber is out of the picture. This tenon is small, like 5/8ths small. It's a cute little receiver though.
