Enzo is right for hunting situations about the post front sight. Target work with a known target size at known distances apertures just work

The scope option that Jay tried to lure me into would be awesome. But, it takes a rear dovetail to mount. Which this rifle doesn’t have. So, it will be a taller tang sight.

And I prefer the crosshairs globe. Never liked posts. For hunting or target.
Just what I’m used to, I guess.

I’m in no rush. It’s stupid accurate with the factory tang sight. Just can’t reach out to 700 or 800 with it. We were aiming at the top of a hill behind the target and the barrel was completely covering the target. We were aiming at treetops.

Pop rocks a 6X Malcolm on his 45-100. Optic quality is probably awesome for 1880. Field of view pretty narrow, and you need to remember to pull it back in its mounts after each shot. .The full procedure amounts to fire, pull back scope, half-cock, open action, load, close action, full-cock, set trigger, fire. . .it's a process, for sure. Can't really say the scope brings much to the party over and above a good peep & globe setup. Good for the challenges of old eyes & little else, IMO.

This is one sight to seriously look at. Windage in the eye cup, plenty of elevation.

I concur...I have one on one of my Sharps and a Lyman on my 1895 Marlin...which didn't stay there long because while it looked good and worked ok...every time you shot the damn thing you drew back a bloody hand...

Were you running your thumb on the right side of the pistol grip stock? Or behind the tang?

hey, while you're looking for projects, look up a Beech front sight. Build one and I'll be a customer.https://montanavintagearms.com/product/ ... ont-sight/

The .45-70 1895 has a straight stock and the base of the tang sight rested right in the web of my hand...it was a great thought but in practice....it sucked...ended up putting a Buckhorn on it....

How about a buffington style? https://www.ssfirearms.com/proddetail.asp?prod=73S363 Windage is built into the base not on the sight, It would work although if bought the elevations would not match anything
