Re: New 7.6 Creedmoor
Regardless of how hard you close the clamp it is a friction lock and there is a chance of rifle and clamp coming apart while you move positions, either shooter moving to another location or while moving the rifle around to address multiple targets.
Arca (or more correctly Arca-Swiss) is a mechanical attachment that allows you to basically make the rifle and tripod a single unit but still easily connect or disconnect the two. The system has been around for many years primarily in use for cameras. It has been adopted for shooters relatively recently.

That, and it’s more stable. You’ll never clamp a clamp on style tight enough.

Re: New 7.6 Creedmoor
I would imagine that while you can a n mount v a thermal on a traditional Model 70 or 700, if you're willing to modify it for the mount, a chassis rifle is easier to do it to.

Re: New 7.6 Creedmoor
Again, I know nothing about this game, just playing devil's advocate for the sake of education. From casual observation it looks like many thermal options use regular scope mounts. The others require a pic rail. neither is an obstacle on a traditional stocked rifle.
Re: New 7.6 Creedmoor
All you need is a pic rail for mounting. You could slap one on a muzzle loader. Which may be an interesting video…
The only thing as far as scope mounting advantage is concerned with a chassis is they offer the option to mount a thermal in front of a low power scope.

True on the pic rail, but how many wood and blued steel guys would be willing to allow that abomination near their rifle?CPJ 2.0 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 04, 2026 3:42 am All you need is a pic rail for mounting. You could slap one on a muzzle loader. Which may be an interesting video…

Since a good number of the thermal scopes look like, well scopes, I suspect quite a few.breamfisher wrote: ↑Sat Apr 04, 2026 2:38 pmTrue on the pic rail, but how many wood and blued steel guys would be willing to allow that abomination near their rifle?CPJ 2.0 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 04, 2026 3:42 am All you need is a pic rail for mounting. Just to be clear I'm referring to the pic rail, not the scope.

Who's interested in doing a custom run of 7.6mm CM headstamped brass?
