Not a damn thing! If you are actually there... But where this picture was taken there is no freaking "Salt Life" anywhere close, unless you're talking about the salt they spray on the roads during their 10 month winter. I can't even fathom where he bought that shirt

Yep, "forever" being a very subjective term in my vocabulary... I have an attention span that rivals my Cattle Dog's.

Hey I had the last one for 3 freakin' years... Again, when I started adding up the cost of the upgrades I wanted, this just made more sense.

And on a whim I took a detour. My wife says I’m not allowed to go out unsupervised anymore…. She’s in my garage now.

Your wife’s in your garage now?

None so far…. Just went out today to BLM land for a quick run and shooting. Emphasis on the shooting. I was plinking with my 7.5” Old Model Vaquero in 44-40 and my son-in-law was shooting his Sharps 50-90 with real BP loads. It was awesome, no pics though…

The Mojave didn’t break a sweat…

Great place to buy a hat for sure. I picked up the hat I got married in in Texas. Didn’t want to wear it in the plane so I handed the box to the guy at the Delta counter in Houston and asked him to please take care of my hat. He looked at me and said “Don’t ever trust a Texan with your wife but you can certainly trust him with your hat. It’ll be waiting for you when you get to New York.”

When I got to New York I got my luggage but no hat box in the carousel, all of a sudden this guy shows up hand carrying my hat box and hands it to me. He then said that some dude from the Airport in Texas called him and said that my hat had to be hand carried to me or he would personally come to New York to kick his ass 🤣🤣🤣

In the house. The garage is where all my tools and toys are.

Sooooo. . .the Jeeps and rubber ducks thing. . .

If you've been gifted enough of them, could you throw them under the tires if you get stuck? Kind of like a traction board that you scatter out of a salt shaker? Or maybe they're floats for water crossings? :P

Interestingly, there's a pair of "shrines" on the Mojave Road trail close to the "mailbox" containing the log book travelers can sign. One shrine is made up of random frog figurines and the other of garden gnomes. There's a third that seems more recent where people are leaving little Matchbox & Hot Wheels trucks.

You'd think there'd be a duck shrine in the desert at this point - - where all the Jeepers can jettison their built-up collections.

Lifestyle vehicles can't make it that far into the desert, and CJ owners don't do ducks.

The duck thing is cute. I really gave it no attention at all for a long time but after I set up my old Gladiator to be a much more capable off-road desert cruiser I started getting ducks from random people and I realized it’s done in kindness and fun. I even had one handed to me by this really nice older lady and I asked her if she owned a Jeep and she said “No, I just like them a lot and every Jeep owner I’ve met was a nice person so I give them ducks just so I can say hi and talk to them for a few minutes.”.

In Nevada there are a LOT of Jeeps because the vehicle fits well with the country, and they open up opportunities to explore the probably thousands of off-road trails and roads in the region. Actually I can drive all the way from my city to Souther Utah and never hit a paved road.

So you don’t have to be a rock crawler or mud lover to appreciate that there are natural barriers that are a hard stop for everyday vehicles on these trails but a Jeep and other capable 4WD vehicles can get through. So as I said, my Jeep gets me places that are absolutely magnificent and most will never see! Those shrines are probably in or close to such places and they are just a marker that shows a small personal achievement. “I made it here”.

As I stated I don’t keep the ducks I get, they just roll around when you make a turn and they are really annoying when you are off-road. But my wife likes the idea so she bought a bag of cute rubber ducks and she likes giving them away. And you know, no one has ever been a **** to her and all the ones she gives out are received with a smile and a friendly word or two. So I see little wrong with that. Actually we need more of these friendly interactions in our society.

I don’t know what a “lifestyle vehicle” is so I took a minute to google it. Seems like it’s a catch all term used for everything from mommy SUVs to the UTVs my neighbor owns. Basically another cultural lingo label made up by those that feel the need to slap a label on everything or leave others wondering what they mean based on made up knowledge/language.

So understanding this, your statement seems lacking context. Don’t know what “far into the desert” means or how to measure that statement objectively in miles. My vehicle makes it “far enough” in to suit MY needs. Like I said above l, that’s well past where others can go. Wife, family and I seek natural beauty and lack of other humans, and I achieve that all the time.

In any case I don’t pick vehicles based on anything other than personal needs and my budget. This one checks all the boxes nicely 👍

Ps. CJ owners CAN’T do ducks. They don’t have a dashboard so it’s like proudly proclaiming “I don’t do goofy dances” when you have no legs. 🤣

Going into the desert should be thought of in thirds.
3rd of a tank in 3rd coming out and the rest for emergency. I learned that the hard way in El Paso, pushing my Enduro bike a mile back to the truck.

VERY wise statement and quite true!!! Especially in an environment that will swiftly kill you as the newspapers here show every year.
