The photos of the area and having visited, make me a little envious. But, white snow or blue water and white Sand beaches? I sure hope to visit again soon.

There is a real condition called Altitude Sickness, where your body doesn’t adapt to lower oxygen levels in the air. It can knock you on your butt. Going too fast from sea level to 9700 is rough on the body!

There was a period of time when a lot of older folks were migrating to the Smoky Mountains region of NC/TN (which are only in the 4-6k range) from the NC shore and other sea level places like metro NJ and NY. There were stories in the newspapers of folks literally falling over dead walking from their car to the front door during their first week at their new places. I'm definitely short of breath doing things I would consider "normal" at my elevation while there, and it takes me a day or two to get "clear headed" again when I get back. Low oxygen is no joke, even had a hell of a time starting a fire for coffee when we got there.

And kudos to the folks at Maverick gas station for providing this nifty gun holder in the stall

Yes it does. Especially when you drink about a quart of gas station coffee to start your day

Maverick has some decent brew from their fresh coffee machines. But it does indeed, get you moving.
But locally we don’t like Maverick, they bought out another localish chain, Kum N Go. Had quite a few struggles getting things switched. Finally better, but still not our beloved Jizz and Jet.

Suffered from that on a trip to Utah and the surrounding parks. Wife booked a hotel Brian Head, not realizing that it was not only halfway between two locations we were visiting, but also one of the highest locations in Utah. 10-11K feet and we flew in from Miami. We both didn't feel well, but several bottles of water helped

Yeah their coffee is not bad and I like that they have 100% gasoline (non-ethanol) available so I can squeeze a few extra miles per gallon out of the tank on long trips.

I went into one of those a few years back. Found a hole in the wall and stuck it in. Nothing happened. False advertising!

I experienced a couple times while backpacking in the Sierra Nevadas as a Bot Scout leader. We called it hitting the wall. We had to split some of the boys gear between us just to get them to camp. When I hit the wall all I wanted to do was go to sleep.

You know it's a great group when the snow starts working its way towards you, everyone just kind of stares at it and grunts, and goes back to the fire without saying a word... and it was an absolute blast!

At my age I now hit the wall getting the empty trash cans back to the garage in the summer

That was funny! Secretly Tom and I had our “we have to pull the plug if it gets too deep. We can go out to the south…” conversation.
