Skinning setup. Got some welding clamp type vise grips from the Hazard Fart. I need to weld some plates on it for more grip. I bought a skinning dingus earlier this year, it worked fine for hand work. Adding a winch….not so much. Snapped it right half in two.

So it pops out into the field. First shot...
244 yards. Clean miss.
It runs a circle or two, runs towards me. heads back to the fence. Stops. Facing head left quartering pretty hard. I shoot, get blinded by 18.2 grains of H110 from a 9" barrel. See it hop the fence. Found blood, but not much. Only had one dying flashlight on me, almost just called it till the next day. Shined the light around and saw the white belly.
.308 Castrado (.300 black out) with a Barnes 110 TAC TX.
1700 FPS estimated impact velocity. Took out half the liver, and some lungs. Not a ton of internal damage. Ran 20-ish yards.
What tripod are you using?

Manfroto.
It’s aluminum, decently sturdy. The latches what for extending the legs are just that: latches. Fine for a photoshoot, not so much for hunting because they snag on EVERYTHING. Most other have a twisty thingy for locking the legs. I prefer the feel and operation of latches, but can’t argue with the snag free nature of twisty bits.
Why did I choose this one?
My property tax funds education. My daughter forgot to turn in a tripod.
Do the math.

Must be nice.
One of the more draconian laws in this state forbids anything that allows you to see in the dark while deer hunting, and the relatively new night hunting season for hogs ends the day before bow season opens and doesn't start back until the day after gun season for deer ends 2/10.
A few years ago, before they opened up night hunting for everyone and I joined my current range, I had a game warden hassle me for having 2 uppers with ATN digital NV scopes attached at a state owned public range. He finally calmed down when I showed him my predation permit that allowed night hunting of hogs and coyotes.
Funny part was, he didn't even ask to see my tax stamp for the suppressor I was using
edited to add this direct copy and paste from the game regs
It shall be unlawful to possess any equipment that uses electronics to increase the ability to see in the dark (night vision equipment) while hunting any species of wildlife, both protected or unprotected species, except during the special nighttime feral swine and coyote hunting season with valid license

That sucks. Texas has some weird hunting laws, so I’m not going to bust on that too much, though

5-1/2 yr old Cull Buck!
.243 Win
105gr A-Max
100yrd
Dropped at the shot.
A buddy and I went to his place for Axis Deer. None showed up and about 15 min before the end of legal shooting light for whitetail, this boy walked out. I asked if I could take him and my buddy asked, “Why?”
Me - “Because, who will ever shoot another buck that looks like that?!?”
I love unique and old bucks.
His tines weren’t broken (well, except for one brow tine), they just never grew. His right beam was basically a long spike with a couple kickers. Pretty cool looking.

The scope has an internal one as well. Guess I failed to mention that too.
