10"

I got one of those electric snow shovels. Throws the snow fine but the wind is blowing in the one direction I need it not to blow.

It’s cold enough that the snow is fluffy here. Used my leaf blower to clear the first round yesterday.

Got down to 19 degrees last night, and we have drifts of sleet about 2 feet deep that have frozen to solid chunks and about 2” of solid sleet sheets on everything.

So. Time to do some reloading

Fluffy and 25mph winds make a mess. Everything I did early got drifted

I have a nice little mess going. We got all four. Snow sleet rain and freezing rain. I have a nice little lake on the front drive Tha will not drain due to the snow dams. I am in the process of digging reliefs to get it drained before the hard freeze tonight. Still have power for now so that is nice.

Which state are you residing in?
I'm in Michigan's UP, just north of the Wisc border. Crystal Falls area. BTW -16 as I write this. This crap gets old.
Tried to warm it up before it got to you, no luck, sorry ;)

21 degrees and 15 inches of snow. My Black and Decker 40 volt battery operated snow blower has had a work out today. I've been going out every three hours to keep my straps and parking area clear. 15 degrees tonight then the real cold sets in. This fits my handle too well!

I appreciate the effort, but no worries. This ice and minus 20 junk will all be gone by the ;) 4th of July.
Some year... ;)

16 inches of snow on the ground and our streets haven't been plowed. My charger for the snow blower batteries took a dump last night so I have one more chance to clear my parking area. I can get another charger if I can get out of our neighborhood. Right now its 10 degrees and won't get to 15 degrees today. Tonight the fun begins with a low of 2 degrees and later in the week it will be -8 ! Our high temps will be in the low teens and salt doesn't work well below 15 degrees. This weather will continue for at least a week and a half.

At least I have a couple projects to work on! I'm refurbishing a 1948 JC Higgins bolt action 12 gauge and a 1969 Marlin 25.

Finally got power around 4:00. Supposed to be low teens in the morning. Up from a predicted 5-6. Lights have flickered a couple of times.

Benefits of being close to the power plant. Only had power go out once (Yoder toter hit a pole) and it was back in a couple hours.

Now. They are (supposedly) putting in another power plant even closer to the house.

I can’t unhear that term. I’ll pass them tomorrow, on my way to a monthly customer where the Yoder population is heavy.

Still have power.

I’ve contacted a nearby company that sells and installs whole house generators. I’ve been thinking about it for awhile but this storm, plus my wife mentioned it Last week, has made me look in to it. My son and family live in an all electric house. They were here with their 3yo and 7 wk old baby.

We don’t need it often but when we do, oh boy do we REALLY need it. Plus my wife and I are getting older so it’ll be a benefit.

The whole house gen thing has been brought up in my house.
A down side is that if I don't keep the gas fresh and the battery charged and make sure the critters don't chew on things and test once a month I don't trust it to start when I press the button. Silly, I know.

So...the last time I crawled into the attic to change my "forced air gas" furnace filter, I ran a heavy duty extension cord from the furnace to the mud room.

If the power goes out at the worst time, I move the extension cord from grid power to one of those big a** battery "generators". (EcoFlow 3600 WH).
I've tested it and it easily keeps the furnace going for a couple of days. The furnace only pulls 550 watts so I can easily power other stuff.

I feel a little better about going to sleep without a gas generator running in the yard.

When the sun comes out, I'll start the gas generator and recharge the EcoFlow and keep the fridge cold and take it from there.

I’ve got an old genset a buddy gave me. I need to fire it up I suppose. It’s EFFING HEAVY.
Needs wheels added to it for sure. The problem with whole house set is it takes whole house quantities of fuel. It ain’t about the cost as much as it is about having enough fuel. Do you need to run the whole house or the fridge and the furnace? The answer is the fridge and the furnace. And a well, if you have one. But even that’s not a need.

But don’t tell a woman that.
