On Sunday I finally saw the groundhog where I cut the brush down. I put one through the boiler room and this time he ran for the hole...... where he stood... and waited. He started swaying and I thought, "He's going to die right there."

He finally went down the hole and I thought, "Finally! I wouldn't have to get rid of the carcass."

Tonight I come home and see three buzzards behind the house. That MFer came out of the hole to die. He was a good sized GH. I doubt a possum could pull him out of the hole. Hopefully the buzzards are hungry and eat most of it.....

Took three years, but I drew a Colorado pronghorn tag this year. Spent the weekend in Eastern Colorado with my dad. Doing something we both enjoy. This was the trip I put the 6.5-06 together for. Finally settled on a load pushing a 129gr InterLock at 3150 fps and set myself up for a shot to almost 300yards without having to worry about hold over. I'm glad I did that as well were told to be prepared for 400+ yard shots shortly before we headed out to Colorado. Spent the first day sneaking around harvested corn fields, started winter wheat fields, and crawling down farm roads, and shallow ditches and shrubbery patches without any success. Combination of flat country, poor wind conditions, and small 4 legged predators made things difficult. Morning of day two worked out much better resulting in my furthest shot on game. My previous longest intentional shot on game was my last Pronghorn hunt with a 250 yard shot using a .30-06. I would prefer to get closer but hunting open fields isn't ideal for that. The outfitter called it out as 406 yards and I held over what looked like the correct amount based on my drop chart and let fly. One and done and delicious meat in the freezer.

Not the longest horns, but of the three heads I have it is by far the most mass below the cutters. Old animal for sure, and to me that is a better trophy than something young with really long but thin horns.

This was my third pronghorn trip. First trip was to Wyoming and last trip was more central Colorado. Wyoming was the only trip that was not through an outfitter. Hopefully some day I can make another pronghorn trip. Maybe put together a 6mm-06 for that one??
