Carbide tooling is amazing. Magical. Maybe even demonic. I’ve made some end mills do some terrible things, and it keeps on trucking.
High speed steel? Never heard of her.

Agreed. I rarely ever use hss, especially in the mill. Amazon has carbide endmills cheap enough to almost consider them disposable use items. I buy a bunch for RMR cuts and they plow through hardened slides with ease. I feel bad for the old guys (like my dad) that had to use hss for everything.
Re: The last person to post in this thread don’t get nothing.
I was fortunate enough to have some guys hit me up.
“Hey. I have some random cutters. You want them?”
Yep.
I EASILY got over 1k in tooling from a friend. Some of it was stuff he got as samples from tool reps. Some were used from his job, they’d run ONE part and swap tools. Cutters were basically new.
Then I’m sure there were some that were “used”…….

Awesome, did you settle on a brand yet?
Re: The last person to post in this thread don’t get nothing.
Jackson Built.
Im not wild about it, but, I have an Etsy store with that name currently and I have a a tiny, tiny bit of exposure there. Which, is better than none. And its a pain in the dingus to change it.
As far as a model, it will be the SMF4. Maybe the SMF. Maybe SMF 4.1.
SMF 4.1 has a better ring to it. Its the Sharp Middle Finger 4.1" blade.

They look amazing. Seems you have the edge sharpening down now too.

About 2-3 passes on each side on the belt grinder with a 220 grit belt is all it takes to establish the edge. Then it’s on to a diamond stone, ceramic rods, then leather strop with 19 micron diamond paste.
The knife eating electric work sharp abortion can kick rocks.

It's a rarity to get a new blade with a razors edge anymore. I always wondered if it was for a particular reason or the manufacturer was just shìt at sharpening knives. Those really do look awesome though and I'm glad that it's working out for you.

Side note, you as a smith of guns need this.

Put on a leather strop it makes metal parts really shiny.
But USE IT SPARINGLY. It doesn’t take much to coat the strop

Interesting concept that I've never tried. One thing I'd love to know the secret of is how the hell other people are polishing guns on a large scale volume. It's the one thing i despise about hot bluing. It takes an average of about 10 hours to high polish a revolver to blue and you really can't do it any faster unless you want to knock over edges and divot screw holes.CPJ 2.0 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 10:22 pm Side note, you as a smith of guns need this.

Re: The last person to post in this thread don’t get nothing.
It works awesome to give a knife the extra sliceyness. And ok small parts it works good. Probably wouldn’t be the best for polishing a whole gun.

CPJ those look like some great blades! Nice work!
Re: The last person to post in this thread don’t get nothing.
Thanks. If the sheath would only be so “easy”.

Re: The last person to post in this thread don’t get nothing.
The sheath for my original sharpfinger is the weak link. I do not like the design or the securing strap. The stitching failed long ago I restitched portions with spectra fishing line.
An improvement would be formed Kydex and integral bell loop or clip. It’s water proof doesn’t degrade and is easily riveted. Just a thought

I’ve already looked at that. The main issue is availability. I found one sheet that would most likely work. However, one day they had them in the next day they didn’t.
These will be 3-D printed I just have to get it designed which is a challenge for me
