In reading the reviews, the bullets apparently came with a variety of tip colors, Darker green, blue and black.

Since the consensus is that the Sabre Blade Blacktips are Hornady SSTs with black tips, I'm beginning to agree with you.
The doe above was quartering away and I nicked the front top of the right shoulder blade on entry. No exit and I stood around until the processor gutted her. The biggest intact piece of the lungs/heart was roughly between the size of a golf or tennis ball

The one the wife neck shot (mid neck) with a 125gr 30cal using "youth data" (~2300fps) blew quite an exit wound

But it’s supposed to be cold in the morning, so that might make them move. It’s like 71 degrees right now

This season was a bit of a bust. Good thing we still have muzzleloader, late antlerless, and late late antlerless to cover the next 6 weekends for me.

Thanks! No luck on this trip- saw a couple of deer, but the weather changed early this morning, and all we saw were young dumb ones. All the ones on the hit list were smarter than us and stayed nice and warm in their beds while we dealt with 40 degrees and 20 mph winds

Forgot to add the new rifle for this year that I was hoping to test out. Gotta love the limited firearm zone where I can use a centerfire through muzzleloader season as well.

Any day you have your Danners on is a good day, snow is not so bad, get on some fresh tracks and do some stalking.

Whatcha got there?
I have been using a .458x1.8 built on a Win M70, but after several seasons cut short due to some scope issues I decided I wanted a back up. I also wanted to make something all weather as the .458 is a blued steel barrel and wood stock. No issues so far, but the wood stock has taken some abuse over the years from eating poop a few times going up and down the hill in the snow. My dad has been using his .430x1.8 (I watched him draw up the reamer print before I decided to pursue the .458 route). I decided that I wanted to build an all weather .430x1.8 as I had a donor action already. This started life as a Rem 700 MTN chambered in 6.5 CM. I never did get terribly impressive results with it as a 6.5 CM, so it became a donor. The barrel is a McGowan pre-thread with a Rem Magnum contour that we fit up to the receiver/bolt and chambered. The stock is just a factor Rem SPS that I had laying around with a barrel channel that was big enough. Not terribly fond of the stock, but it works.

I am loaded up with 225gr Bear Creek copper bullets. I settled on a load that pushes them around 2375 fps with IMR4227. I can go a fair bit faster with W296, but groups open up a fair bit. Next year I may look at spending more time getting a load dialed in, but in all reality I have a maybe 50 yard max shot where I nap in the woods. The reamer drawing was based off of using RWS 9.3x62 brass and a Hornady 265gr FTX. I am using Peterson CM basic brass. My brass is a bit thinner and it does create some issues, but not bad enough that I can alter my sizing procedure slightly to overcome without creating additional issues. Some day I may work up a new batch of brass using some .30-06 brass that should be closer to the correct wall thickness.

It was a very wet snow and lots of wind. Wind has been an issue all season. My dad and I go to a local state game area. We know that a fair number of others are in the game area as well. With the fresh snow we found a grand total of one set of tracks across the trail to walk in. Even across the road and in the farmer fields on the way to the game area, we just havent seen sign of deer like we have the past couple years. Last few years have been full of tracks and we had actually spotted a fair number of deer throughout the season. So far this year I spotted two young does and a spike during early antlerless season, and thats it. All season has been high winds though. Based on the shooting we did hear, its been a slow year for everyone in the area.

First time out this year
First snow too.
Just not his day
Walking in to spot slow took 20 minutes
He just appeared.
Nothing was there a second ago.
Being a buck he thought he'd just ease off it was too late for that.

12 gauge 3" lightfield slug.
He went about 20 yards

Thanks guys
Sometimes deer hunting just sucks.
Today I went back in.
This guy was with 2 does.
He had a nice wide rack.
I'm just far enough in to shoot.
He's between me and houses though.
2nd time that's happened over a couple years within feet of each other.

First was this bruiser

Today was this guy.
Can't really see the rack
Some of the right side maybe ?
Where you can kind of tell it's not stick but antler.
I saw the whole thing and it was worthy.....lol
The does I actually paralleled in up and over a hill where I could shoot.
He was there too just never clear.....teasing me.

On the other side of the hill.
Of course he's behind them giving me ghost glimpses

Since I had the day off, and the Mrs didn't, I'm hunting "The She Shed" this afternoon with the 7x57 that JSD built for me.
Hornady 139 SP and a healthy dose of PowerPro 2000MR are a Timney trigger pull away for anything dumb enough to come out for dinner before 30 minutes after sunset

Edited to add: 65Β°, 3-5mph breeze from my left and "severe clear" skies
