45 Colt Redhawk w/range report.

A while back I found a 4” 45 colt Redhawk made in 2009. I had to have it. I put it on layaway and a few short months later I picked it up. Well yesterday Sako and I had a pistol range day as it was a bit “breezy” here. Oh well still fun to get out. I’m not settled on the grips just yet but they were sure nice with the Corbon and DT Hunter dinosaur killing loads I had squirreled away. I would say those weren’t my favorite to shoot. The DT Hunter loads were 360 grain at 1100 fps!!!! Any way it shot my “standard” 45 Colt load pretty well! (8.1 grains of Unique pushing a 250 grain Keith or RNFP). Man this is a fun, accurate revolver! Sako launched a few of the “heavy hitters” I have to admit they weren’t much fun to shoot, but I save 6 of the Corbin 300 grain at 1300 just in case….😉
Good times!!
The tight group is 15 yards offhand single action. The other group is after moving the sights shot double action at 15

I love Redhawks.
I knew most had 5 1/2 or 7 inch bbl's, was the 4" a dealer special or just a std offering?

Cool range report!

More than an accurate revolver, both are great targets from an accurate shooter. Especially the double action target.

Mine's the round-butt .45C/.45ACP version, but a little careful work with a 1" belt sander made short work of Hogue's annoying finger grooves:

I figure if the original black powder velocity spec was considered suitable for killing a horse, there's little reason to punish one's self with loads that turn your socks into cotton puddles around your ankles.

I’m with you on that one! I have another set of eBay grips on the way…. We shall see

I have the .44Mag version. It is a handful with full power magnum loads.

Nice score, and great shooting!

That Redhawk is awesome! I'll be first to admit I'm not that good with handguns but shot the Redhawk pretty well. Andy's standard load you could shoot all day and never get tired but those 360's, holy cow were they painful! Fired 2 and that was plenty.

Yes he did! I had to keep a close eye on it when we were packing up!🤣

I have several Redhawks. Absolutely love them. Do prefer the round but versions. Which my .45 Colt fortunately is.

That’s a nice one you got there. Great hiking around gun!

Was it the Redhawk or that steely gaze that killed that deer? 🤣

Nice pistol!

I LOVE finger groove grips.

IF they fit. Most don’t. The Hogues that go on the SP101 I love. Any and all Pachmayer rubber finger groove grips can fudge off. Way off. I despise them. Even the non finger groove ones.

Great!! Now I have another one to look for.

I love shooting my son’s Uberti with Cowboy loads. I bet those in the Redhawk would be similar to shooting a .22

Yeah cowboy loads feel like a 38 in a heavy 357…..

Nice find!
It was a loaner Ruger Redhawk that hooked me on handgun deer hunting. Very next season I had a SBH .44
The double action target looks great. Enjoy

RedHawks are the best field handgun ever made, in my opinion.

I shot a Redhawk for the first time today. @Fisheadgieb has one in .454 Casull. While a powerhouse cartridge, the gun, weight and balance made it easy to shoot.
You got yourself a great gun there

I just wish they'd branch out more with the round butt options. My older 5.5" stainless .44 is back in the original grips - those working better than the three others I've tried. None of them as good as the surgically altered Hogues on the .45C/ACP.

The round butt on a 4.25" .44 for a steady diet of warm Specials would make me very happy indeed.
