Any Zev fans here?

Post by Laurdersen »

I put a Timney trigger kit in my full size Zev combat which gives me a trigger pull of about 2/12 lbs. Talk about cannot miss with this pistol. This pistol will be my match pistol. I have a compact Zev, which I will leave unmodified, and maybe make my edc. Right now it competes with my Gen 5 17 and Gen 3 G 19. I like Zevs because they fit all my Glock holsters and use the G 17 magazines. Much less of an investment in accessories.

Welcome!

I shoot and teach stock Glocks and stock pistols in general, and generally assist in writing policy on such. I definitely wouldn't recommend what you're discussing as an EDC.

Point number one: if you need a 2.5# trigger to hit anything with a pistol, you probably need to correct your technique for keeping a pistol aligned while you pull the trigger. Good accuracy can be achieved at long range with DA revolvers with a pull of over ten pounds when good fundamentals are applied. Benchrest rifle triggers aren't necessary for hitting what amounts to a coffee can lid at ten feet.

Point number two: Look up Santibanes v. Tomball, Tx for an education in why light triggers on carry guns for use in adrenaline-charged situations might not be a great idea.

Point number three: perhaps as a reinforcement of Santibanes, the National Institute of Justice standard for trigger pulls on a striker-fired duty gun is five pounds.

Point number four: combat guns are typically manufactured to WORK first and be sexy second. Very frequently when stuff stops functioning on a firing line, it's because the whizz-bang aftermarket race parts failed because the razor's edge advantage they were installed to achieve got blunted.

But as Gibson said in Leathal Weapon 2, "It's your ass, Cochise"

All of that.

I carry a plain ass stock Glock because it works every time.

I’d LOVE a 2 pound trigger in my carry gun. But it’s not worth it to me. Not only for stressful situation I think that’s too light, the only time I hear of Glocks fouling up is when…..you screw with them.

And I am 100% a trigger snob. The notion of a “real marksman can shoot around a bad trigger” is lost on me. Because a smart marksman replaces a bad trigger.

But, not on carry weapons.

I haven't messed with any Zev stuff personally. Most of their Glock stuff looks to be more whiz bang than adding functionality.

Something of note, is to the best of my knowledge Zev is the OEM maker for a few high end AR companies. You can't convince me that SOLGW rails aren't just rebranded Zev rails with a QD socket added.

Welcome!

I have not had the chance to play with much ZEV stuff. It looks good and has a great reputation, but… that’s all I know

Welcome. I got to play with one of my instructor's Zev and was pretty impressed with the gun. I did not go very deep into the internals, model etc. but it was easy to shoot and accurate enough for me to be consistently ringing a 50 yard silhouette using an RDS. Saw it being used in many classes over a period of 6 months with no failures so I have absolutely nothing negative to say.

You’re correct.

Everyone should answer “no”, and move the fudge on. There’s no reason for a discussion here! Especially when a Zev is a Glock clone with fancy bits added.

Never tried your set-up, but it sounds like it works well for you.
I use a couple of Glocks and a couple of clones:
The Shadow Systems pistols are both stock
Run a MR920 ("Senior") and primarily the CR920 ("Junior")
