Mr. Willie Mays sailed over the center field fence yesterday. Another childhood hero gone.
I had the pleasure of talking with Mr. Mays several years ago in the Atlanta airport. We were both waiting on the same flight. I didn't even think to ask for an autograph.
He chuckled when I told him that when I played ball, my baseball glove had his signature on it. He said MacGreger used to make real good fielding gloves. Say Hey Kid!!! RIP
Another one gone
Re: Another one gone
Most of those older athletes were regular guys. I had a similar experience with Bart Starr at an airport, just sat and talked about stuff, and never mentioned football!!
I enjoyed watching Willie play!!

Ol' Willie endured a lot of challenges in his life and still managed to come out on top. That's a winner.
