Anyone have one? I took a friend and his boys walleye fishing the other day and he left me with a bunch of fruit they had freeze dried. It was pretty dang good he said they do all sorts of stuff in it.

So of course I looked $2,600 for the cheapest one. So again anyone have one what’s your opinion is it worth the money?

And we're not talking about a simple dehydrator?

I've used my $100 dehydrator to dry lots of fruit and venison jerky.

Nope freeze dried, think the astronaut ice cream.

Very different than dehydrated.

I've been looking at them for a while and I'll probably splurge and get myself one as a retirement present in about a year. From a bit of research, I did learn that they use a lot of electricity and it's worth it to buy a large one that runs on 220volts and running the biggest batches possible. I like the idea of the food lasting 20 to 25 years. The small ones use so much electricity that it's cheaper to just buy freeze dried foods.

My wife has had the mini-fridge sized Harvest Right for a little over a year now. It's been a good machine, and seriously reduced the need to venture into town for groceries on my last hunting/camping trip.

You'll go through a phase of "Let's see what happens when I put _________ in the freeze dryer", but will ultimately have a lot of good staples saved up in jars. If you garden more than you can eat before it rots, it's a good thing to have.

I want one. Do not have the money or space needed to get it, though.
