Snowy Range report.

Sako and I decided to forgo the usual range day and head to one of our favorite day trip spots. We went to the Snowy Range in Wyoming. We took my Jeep, a 06’ TJ, and did some easy 4 wheeling and then some rock hounding, we saw some moose as a bonus! Pictures of the Libby Flats looking back to the “range” and moose up by Glacier Lakes. The first picture is looking south into Colorado. The highest peak in the first picture is Longs peak. The last picture is looking north at the Snowy Range. Good times! Oh that cow moose and calves are standing right in Sako and my favorite brook trout spot.

Awesome!!!! Two sleeping bags, some meat to put on a sharp stick and a coffee pot ready to go for next morning makes for a quick overnight camp. No planning needed

So the Snowy’s in August usually have a low tent of freezing yup 32 degrees! Some shelter is needed…..

It was a great day for sure. Four wheeling in a place called Libby Flats and it was kind of flat except for the jeep trail, boulders everywhere it seemed.
Lots of fun I can't have in my SUV
Rockhounding was fun, quite the variety to found up there. Moose were a real bonus. Two different family unit with the bull, cow and 2 calves each.
It would be a great place to camp if they allowed it but not under the stars! it was chilly during the day.

I I miss the Sierras in California! Those are some great pics that bring back memories!

NICE! Gotta love mooses! Didn't see any in 2015 when I was in Yellowstone proper, but saw two of them on the way east headed out of the park before I got to Cody. Impressive creatures for sure.

I love that place! I went to college at UW in Laramie 45 miles away from there….

They are big critters! Love seeing them in the “Range”

I they don't allow it that is a real shame...
As far as temp all you need is the right forecast (no rain or heavy winds), a good sleeping bag and a foam pad, and MAYBE a tarp just in case. wife and I are headed out later this week for her first no tent. Temps will be in the low 40s and she is really excited. My biggest issue is keeping her from sneaking more junk than we need to the Jeep

Just that side of hwy 230 the south side you can camp.

Once during an Army convoy from Anchorage to Fairbanks, we decided to keep count of all of the mooses we saw. There was snow on the ground so they were easy to see.
We quit in the 120's and we weren't even close to the pass yet.
