Its the little things that matter....

Went with BH and his partner last week to check out a butchers shop that was closing down as his partner wanted to buy some machinery for her butchers shop.
While they looked over vacuum packers and a sausage making machine I saw 2 elderly people struggling to load crates of frozen homekill beef into chiller bags and place them into their car ( They were younger than me actually), so I walked over to give them a hand. When we finished we started chatting about various things and the subject of peacocks came up.
It transpired that they owned a 300 acre farm which was cropped with corn/maize and had a peacock problem. I mentioned that I culled the birds and other pests like turkeys/rabbits/possums etc off other properties in their area..the guy told me that he had hunters that came to shoot deer, but they wouldnt take the peacocks out and I explained that most hunters wouldnt want to disturb the deer by shooting at birds.
I told him that if they wanted the birds culled, to give me a ring and gave him my mob number. The following day he rang and asked me if I would like to come up and look over the property.
Went up a few days later and called in to have a chat and check the 'lay of the land'. While driving up to the house I counted about 140 peacocks in 3 distinct mobs within 200m of their driveway.
Ended up with him giving me permission to shoot not only the peacocks but also the feral turkeys and the feral pigeons that blackened the sky when they were disturbed. I wont get paid but he will cover the cost of petrol and ammo.
Went back 2 days later to ride the boundaries and see the extent of the problem and counted roughly 300 peacocks, about 50 turkeys and well over 1500 pigeons and doves! Took the 17HMR and took out the lead male in one of the mobs of peacocks as he wanted the tail feathers for his grandson who sold them to make pocket money. Pic in Hunting pics thread.
5 minutes spent helping them load their homekill and now I have unlimited shooting whenever I want.
Need to buy some pigeon decoys. Ha!
