I'm officially retired!

I've been working a job I don't like for the last five years, working in the cabinet shop for the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board. Two and a half years ago my co-worker quit and I've had to work the shop alone. I'm the oldest person to work in that shop and the only person to have to work it alone. I developed an injury because of the heavy lifting. I have been fighting the insurance company and HR for a year and a half. On July 24th they told me if I could return to work full duty, don't come to work, so I didn't. I shuck the hand of the one good foreman and walked out the door. The strange part is, They never gave me a co-worker to train. Nobody knows the techniques I used and I took my drawings with me.Yesterday I had a mediation hearing, I got a two year severance package and future medical. I have retired! On Monday I'll turn in my two day notice, today I quit. It is so liberating! I'll be doing a lot more reloading, shooting and fishing.
I finally got the answer to a question I had most of my life, I wondered how long I'll have to be retired before I stop hating Monday? It took me a long time to hate Monday this bad, starting with grammar school! It took a month!

Boy, I shouldn't post before I had a cup of coffee and was awake! I shook the foreman's and I didn't shuck it. They said If I couldn't return to work full duty.......

Same where I work. If you have a workers comp injury they will give you light duty. If you have light duty from a surgery they won't let you work AND will put you on the hardest job in the plant when you come back.
And congratulations. My wife came up with a 5 year exit plan for me. I hope it works.

Hating Mondays since grammar school - HA!
My Dad retired 9 and 12 years ago, and the day of the week is, for the most part, no longer relevant to them except for the fact that it influences how they interact with the poor working stiffs like me who still have to punch a clock. Neither of them seem to miss it.

Congrats! And not sure when you'll stop hating Mondays because I can completely relate to that. I hate Mondays so bad that I also hate Sunday, because I know the next day is Monday. Kinda how I hate Fall because I know that Winter is next. It's something that I too adopted during grade school. I realize how I'm wishing 2/7ths of my week away but it is what it is and like Chris, my retirement will consist of the trip to the funeral home freezer.

Someone once said "My retirement will consist of the time between my death and my head hitting the keyboard".

Congrats
I retired in 2022 and haven't looked back. I stay busy to the point that I can't figure out how I did anything when working. Time to enjoy life, that's what you worked so hard for.

I've been cleaning and tinkering around the house. I finished two 22 restoration projects and will start a CVA ML the week after next. Then archery season will be here and I'm really looking forward to that.
As for the honey do list, my wife and I thought it would be good to make a honey do list for each other. I'm 3/4 through mine and she hasn't even started hers. The first thing on her list is DO HONEY!

Maybe you can do her first task for her?
