Kind’a what I’m thinking. I lately have noticed a lot of older shooters at the range using Remington 700 ADLs as bench guns. Load one round, shoot, take notes and do it again. I seem to recall some ancient lore about blind magazine guns potentially being more accurate due to the stock being stiffer, because it doesn't have the hole in the bottom. The 700 ADL has always been a popular gun because you can buy one usually on sale for super cheap from a big outfit, and when the $$$s align you drop it into a good stock, put in a good trigger and scope and you have basically a guaranteed .5 MOA gun with factory ammo, not to mention a NICE gun you can be very proud of at the range. If you handload you can get all holes to touch fairly easily. You still hear that at times. The 700 action is long enough to work with the .375 H&H Mag and it does NOT get any longer than that. How long are you loading your rounds? You might just need to move up to the longest mag box they make.
Both of my hunting rigs are basically this. The 7mm08 started life as a 700 Classic (and I still have the original stock so I could easily return it to that configuration), and the 7mm RM was an older ADL. What length barrel do you have on yours? Have you tried any of the no lead options like the Barnes TTSX? They shoot REALLY well out of my 6.5 and I'm going to be testing them in my 7mm RM soon for AZ hunting. You going to go after jack rabbits and coyotes once you get here? Well ultimately I expect to be hunting AZ, hopefully my own land if I play it right. But for now I don’t have to limit myself to AZ.
