I love this rifle!! Dang it’s fun to shoot. I put a box of Remington core locked 150 grainers through it today. First round smacked steel at 100 yards! While that is no real bench rest qualifier but sure is satisfying. 20 rounds, zero malfunctions, and a smile with every pull of the trigger. Sako and Shotgunshooter shot it too. I’ll let them give their impressions . I’m real happy with this rifle. Can’t wait to work up a load for it.

I kinda dig the operational lineage. I got to spend 2 days learning how to take apart the Vickers & Maxim-pattern water-cooled MG's a couple years ago, and the whole reciprocating-barrel-in-a-jacket thing is pretty cool.

At least on yours, you don't need to make water seals out of greased asbestos twine. . .

That took a couple of tries. It turns vertical just after that moment but I thought it looked cooler in the horizontal myself.

Glad that is working so well. I would be really tempted to take it hunting if I had that… because it’s awesome!

That is just a cool rifle/cartridge combo. Back in the day it was the cutting edge thumper and will still deliver. Think about the 300 Savage or 6,5x 55, is there anything a these cartridges cant do that the modern cartridges can? Cool tool! Just because it's old school doesn't mean it was bad school

My hopes have been realized. Now I just need that scope ring base!

The engineering that went into those rifles is amazing. Built to last several lifetimes!! Made when men were men, those things are heavy! I've been shooting my .300 and .250 Savage 99's lately and they are turning into two of my favs!!

A good time was had by all, as always! Sako and Elkcreek were fantastic hosts for my once in a blue moon appearance (hopefully more frequent blue moons to come). I forgot how much fun it can be to work a lever gun fast.

Where is the range? Looks like the targets are 50 yds? The range looks to be new. Great benches! The opening to the front looks to be a little low for some of you

The range is Northern Colorado Rod and Gun Club, there is only one stock tank on the property so I guess we fish in that! Th range was redone about 3-4 years ago now . The roof height is a bit low, but Sako is no mere mortal, he’s a cousin to the yeti. H got the height gene form that side of the family, I got the garden gnome gene. The target stand were set at 50 for a quick zero then out to 100,150 and 200 for steel!

Technically, I was shooting technology from the last century. The 81 was 1908!
