It’s a CVA.
Says so. Right on the barrel.

I'm guessing. 44, as that rebated cylinder seems pretty indicative of an 1860 Colt Army.

I have a bunch of .44cal conical bullets if it is .44 and you want to try something other than round ball in it.

See if it's got any markings under the loading lever. . .
But it's looking like a .44 1860 Army to me. Load with a .454 (ish) round ball & it'll shave off a ring of lead as you ram it home.
The 1861 Navy would have be a .36 and not have that thicker front section of the cylinder.

Most .44cal cap & ball revolvers use either a .451, .454, or .457dia pure lead round ball. Those are the most common. Measure the chamber with a caliper and use a lead ball about .005 over that. When you seat a proper size lead ball, a thin sliver of a ring should be shaved off the ball. Too small it will not seal and you have the danger of the ball moving under recoil, and a flash-over ignition. Too big it will be hard to seat. Use a grease like Crisco over the ball.

I sent a link to this thread a couple weeks ago, I forgot to ask my buddy, talked to his dad since then too and forgot, needs to get a few rounds through it, I have some Blackhorn 209 powder to try
Never mind, percussion caps are not hot enough for it

Perfect candidate for paper cartridge ammunition. They make the cap and ball guns so much more fun to shoot.
