Magnum Rimfire Range Day

Did some scope upgrade / swapping recently and got out to the range today to see if I could kill some paper. My Savage .22 WMR came with a "package scope" that is garbage. Cost was actually lower to buy with the scope and I know why.
Ditched the garbage scope and moved a Tract 22 Fire 4-12x scope from my Ruger Precision Rimfire .17 HMR and replaced that with a Vortex Diamond HP 4-12x. Aesthetically each scope fits the host rifle. But how did they shoot?
Had the 100 yd range all to myself.

Most shooting was done at 50 yards.
Tried a variety of new and old ammo in the .22 WMR. Old Fed 40 gr performed the best with new CCI 40 gr performing well also.

Tried some new CCI 20 gr in the .17 and it shot OK. 17 gr Hornady looked promising at 50 yards but fell apart at 100 yards.

.17 HMR with the Hornady 20 gr really shined at 100 yards.

Also shot my Ruger SR-556 with a 1-8x Vortex with the goal to zero at 50 yards. Fired one round, adjusted, done!

I think they are both definitely keepers and the scopes work just fine.

Abbreviated scope review - between the two I favor the Tract across the board. While I can't complain about the Vortex results, adjustments are mushy without solid, tactile feedback and the reticle is a bit fat for my taste. To the contrary, the Tract scope has excellent turrets, its very bright, great reticle, excellent eye relief.
Take my optics reviews for what they are worth - from a guy that throws stuff together the best he can and kills 8.5 x 11 paper.

Looks like a nice outing - and nice shooting.
Been a long time since I've seen any reference to the .17 HMR here, but I've always liked mine for the days the wind behaves a bit. Just a fun round to shoot.

No complaints about those "portable" benches. The range I was shooting at is mostly used by the folks that lay on the ground and shoot prone, so there aren't any benches in the center of the range. It's usually less crowded than the 100/200 range since the folks shooting shotgun groups at 100 think they can do better at 200 and look cooler doing it.
The 100/200 range adjacent to this one has fixed concrete benches - about 30 shooting stations.
Here's the range in question:

I won’t be able to scratch the itch for a few more weeks, but I take solace in that I enabled a buddy to buy a Henry lever in 22mag. And my brother has left his Winchester .22mag lever at my house “for cleaning”… which means I can play with it a bit more before I have to give it back

JKP that is a shame about your range. Next month we are going to be per/house sitting for the daughter and son in law in Douglasville for two weeks. Was looking at your club when it came up on a search for ranges near there.
Hope it gets sorted out

Damage should be sorted out by then.
