The Devil (spelled E-l-k_c-r-e-e-k) continues tempting me...

Got a phone call a few days ago asked for one night to sleep on it which the manager of the store graciously accepted since Elk creek is the secret owner of the place and it'll be at the local FFL tomorrow so a 4473 and a NICS check and it'll be home.

Another Lipsey's Edition, Ruger Stainless Bisley 6.5' in .480 Ruger in the original box. According to folks at the store (and I trust them implicitly, done a lot of business with these guys) less than 40 rounds fired through it. A cartridge that I never wanted in a grip that I REALLY never wanted. It's like the damned guy does a Jedi trick on me every time. Well now I'll find out what all the fuss is all about with the damned Ruger Bisley cannons.

You need to get shopping for .480 dies and lay in a good sized stock of large pistol primers and you will need a new holster
This one will make a fine companion to the newly added Vacaros!

Glad you bought it! That model is actually something I always had an interest in but in light of the fact I am shying away from magnum recoil these days, It still might have tempted me.

SIL has dies and molds for casting bullets, I have primers and he said he’ll cast, size and powder coat a few hundred bullets for me to get started. About to order some brass today. Looking at a few holster options as we speak. This is getting expensive quick…

Glad to hear that. Some folks have commented about .44 mag felt recoil while pushing bigger bullets of larger diameter and weight. What do you say? Can’t trust too many of the folks on the internet but highly interested in your opinion. Any loads that do well out of yours?

I’ve always thought that .44 was enough for me but lately I’ve been thinking too much about bigger stuff. Maybe because after my SIL got his new .500 Performance Center for Christmas I kind of started missing mine…. I’m also highly intrigued by the .500 Special

I think im good with .357, .41, and .44 as far as big fireball handguns go. I should really dig the .41 out again sometime.

To me, that just doesnt look like it would be much fun to shoot.

Yeah, he knows who the suckers, I mean best fit for a particular firearm are Got introduced to the 480 at the very first Colorado get together. Guy who went by Freeze had Super Redhawks in 480 and 454. Loved the 480, the 454 not so much.

I don't know the .480, but as you know I've done a lot of Weird Science with cast bullets.

I'm cruising Accurate Molds' website and seeing a couple of LOVELY 420 grain WFN options that are practically identical in profile to a number of good .45-70 class projectiles. The nice thing about such a bullet is that the only reason you NEED to throw it fast is to improve the trajectory. Even at pokey sub-1000fps velocities, it's going to be capable of a staggering amount of penetration, and it's going to chop a nasty hole doing it.

Even if it's not where you finally end up, you owe it to yourself to make some 600-700 fps "combat loads" for blasting various kinetic bits of junk about the range. You'll be impressed, and have a lot of fun doing it.

Meh, once you figure out recoil ain’t going to kill you the big boomers are fun. I giggled excessively with every trigger pull on my 4” .500 and the Scandium .44 mag that got a bunch of use at one of the shoots at Teach’s.

I’ll be finding out this weekend what molds my SIL has. He’s a big fan of coated bullets and this is my first experience with those. I figure I’ll do two loads. One relatively mild mortar round and then a T-Rex stomper teeth rattler…

That gun with a factory grip and heavy loads sucks wang. With a Hogue, it changes everything.

As much as I HATE rubber grips from an aesthetic perspective (assuming that’s what you meant by Hogue) they do work really well and make a lot of sense for some guns. I will also say that even the “exotic” wood Hogue grips are a massive improvement over just about all factory grips.

In the guns defense, its not intended as a range day or target gun. With more typical modern factory loadings it isnt too bad to shoot. Its not S&W 686 fun to shoot, but its not bad.

I dont recall what grips are on my .41 and .44, but for some reason I want to say both have Hogue grips on them. Both were purchased used.
