Check out the “grip”.
And maybe, just maybe, STOP THE THREAT before shooting one handed and using the radio at the same time to say shots fired.

That was bad work all the way around.
First off, I have a camera rolling. If I need backup, that’s the only call I’m making. The play by play, you can get from my camera. Otherwise, I’ll call you when the scene is secure. I’m had “office managers” call me on the store radio right in the middle of stupid. I’ve told them, I’ll talk to you when I’m done. Otherwise, stop talking.
Bad taser deployment with one hand because she was trying to radio. Most taser deployments are crap. They suck. Mostly.
Once she exited the building because he had a knife, find cover and lock down the entrance so he doesn’t leave. Deescalate. He’s drunk. He ain’t going anywhere. Call the folks better trained and equipped than you to deal with the situation on a crawl, walk, run path.
She escalated that situation.
And, she didn’t get the lady inside out when she first got there.
Bad execution of the scene.

Well. . .a few folks in that complex will be able to enjoy improved ventilation in their homes.

She let a guy with a knife slap her hand.
When I saw her put her off hand thumb on top of her wrist. . .

Tasers are overrated and not all that effective. On the other hand there is OC with its lingering power that will turn a grown man into a helpless baby...

The big problem with OC, and the reason why folks trained in it typically have to get hosed, is that it doesn't affect everyone equally. Much like the weak-ass salsa served at what passes for a Mexican restaurant in Utah seems like water to this resident of So-Cal, and the Utah resident will probably burst into flames at a hint of the real stuff, sometimes the cops who have to cuff and stuff a perp may be more incapacitated by a "contact high" from OC than the guy they sprayed it directly on. As such, many who know how at affects them choose not to carry the stuff.
Pretty embarrassing when the guy you're supposed to be taking to jail offers to drive because you're blind and coughing from the goo HE'S coated with.

Tasers affect everyone differently too if they make a connection, and they are only effective as long as the juice is applied. LEO's are trained to function under the effects of OC. I'll take OC over a taser every time...

Tasers are “hit or miss”………literally.

LEOs are also trained to shoot and operate a tazer.
How did that work out, here?

She shot the taser as well as she shot her pistol. Just takes longer to reload a taser.

And here I am about to teach LE a two day course on firearms and CQB.
Wish me luck on Monday.

Look, I am not saying one method or tool is better or worse. I do think a lot of LE departments are lacking in training. I believe that whoever trained this officer should take a long look at the video and think long and hard about their teaching. If it's a case of the student just not learning, well, sometimes you're not cut out for some jobs.
Leaving the lady in the house points to a need for remedial training or other employment.
Good luck on your course, Zee. Hope they have decent fundamentals.

So how'd the training go, Zee? Was your class reasonably professional or were they the Bad News Bears?
BTW, I didn't watch the video. Cops doing dumb things always gets me upset and I don't feel like going into a tirade just now.
It's true that some folks just ain't cut out for certain work but I also believe that with the right teaching approach, time and motivation, just about anyone can learn to do practically anything. Of course, that means within reasonable physical and mental limits.
I'm reminded of a saying that's often, but not always, true, "If the student failed to learn, the teacher failed to teach."
Anyway, let us know how it went with your class.

Nobody died. And they were good students. Attentive and enthusiastic willing to learn (with room to learn) and showed improvement. Hot as hell, I even broke out the mobile awnings so they could shoot in the shade and not die. Even at that, had one puke 10-12 times from dehydration and “drinking too much water too fast”. Even though his partner told me he was at a party the night before.
But, he was safe about it. Would holster his pistol or ground his rifle, ask permission to puke, and run to the side berm, puke, and run back to the line to continue firing. Kept telling him he could go sit down but he said he didn’t want to miss anything. After about the tenth time, I TOLD him to sit down on a cooler next to me and watch so he could still learn. Our medic offered him an IV at the end of training and he accepted. Gotta give him props.

That was Monday on the range. He came back today to run through CQB training like a champ.

Oh yeah, I remember those mornings. We would good out the night before and run a PFT the next day. I remember this one guy who would puke at least four times on a 3 mile run under the nice hot Arizona sun.
Good times.
Hey, glad no one died and they didn't saddle you with The Bad News Bears. I've had that experience also.

Only ever yakked once in a PFT. 2 of us were on a det got back at 0200 and were told to be at the PFT at 0700. I was lagging bad the first mile pulled over and spewed, then passed the other guy by the second. Still wasnt a good score

As a boss told me once when a co-worker was late after a night of drinking: “he needs to toughen up. Professionals play hurt”
