Range Calculations

Last week over coffee following a morning at the range the range buds and I were discussing technique. So the engineers in the group did a classic back of the napkin calculation the answer was eye opening!

If the pistol is 10in in length grip to muzzle at a range of 25 yards a deflection of the muzzle by 1/10 inch due to any number of bad technique errors results in an impact at 25 yards skewing 9 inches!

Eyes wide open and dont move!

The amount of movement to change the POI 1" @ 100 yards is shockingly small as well. It's 3:50am and I can't remember it off the top of my head, but it's TINY

So at 100 yards your hitting the target next to yours?

It doesn't take much. That's why good technique is so important.

When you run the math it’s amazing you can shoot good groups at all, especially considering ALL the other variables.

Indeed. It comes down to the human body is capable of crazy things. Just a little bit of machining work and comparing things and you can calibrate your “eyecrometer “ to see differences of .005 of an inch.

That is truly amazing.
