Shooting a rifle at a target 4 mile away (7070 yards)

Not sure if there are any practical real world applications besides, because I can. Maybe Zee can comment… or replicate the shot pressing the trigger with his toe
I have not watched the full video, I’m doing that tonight but cheated and saw the ending. Crazy…
For anyone curious

Might as well use a MDAS and bloop them in like mortars

For anything effective... ^

Not sure if there are any practical real world applications. . .
The biggest challenge here - I think - is that they're launching upward to pretty significant altitude, through wind that - historically, at least - would be damn difficult to measure the speed and direction of. Having a couple drones up with hardware that could link that info would be a help.
If this was artillery, they'd be hitting within a useful blast radius.
If this was WW1-style machine gunnery, they'd have a useful beaten zone. I'm wondering if they carefully laid in and sandbagged the tripod of an M2, if they'd have gotten their one hit faster by doing corrections on a series of 5 shot bursts.

Doesn't have to be any real world value, for these guys attempting to stretch things.
Check out the cartridge they are using, the MV, and BC of what they are using.
This is kind of like the King of 2 Mile Matches on steroids....But of course, this wasn't a competition.

Yep, I absolutely get the satisfaction of testing/stretching yourself and current technology. I was just wondering if there’s a scenario in his world of shoe sales in which this would be of use.

Well I learned about a mirror thingy that can be used to angulate your scopes image.
Much more elegant than some v shaped scope mount.
Cool.
I wonder if Ernie played with those?

Conversing cartel guys…
“We’re safe here, we’re like 4 miles from the Rio Grande, right Pancho?……. Pancho?!?!?!!”

The trajectory and wind are easier to visually compensate from an AC130 @ 10000 AGL

I like this idea for "
dearly departed" Pancho. ^^
Or even a lowly A-10

Had to add this pic I took a few years ago
Edited to add: I wonder if the A10 has firing solutions out that far, I suspect they do

Yes, I have a periscope (tacomHQ).
I have not used it yet.
My ELR drive is not at the top of the heap for me right now.

If you are asking me, have they been used...I think so, but not anyone I know.
I would consider it extremely specialized.
Typical or every day uses for shoes???
No, in my opinion.
Does this kind of stuff help? Yes
In the long run, stretching things, tends to filter down, as we begin to learn things we didn't know before.
Would it help typical (Whatever typical is...600-700 yards or under)?
No, would be my immediate response.
I
think...(not my world) there are so many other important things, that this technology doesn't even enter their universe.

Not for the one I know. He’d just close the distance. Sneak up like a Leprechaun. I’ve seen him do it to pigs. It’s quite impressive, actually.

Let me add, that I know people (no one I have ever had contact with) have played/practiced with this technology, but I am pretty sure it was not at the distances in the video.
Real world at closer distances, I don't know.

Just 3000 yards on a steel target, wide open field, with a wind sock at the target.
Still impressive.
Sometimes the slowness from shot to shot drives me a little crazy...They are really good shooters.
That being said, there is a big difference between a comp type shooter versus a shoe guy.

I still want to experiment with a large grain rifle bullet also loaded with a rocket motor charge. It's feasible to time its ignition to take over at a particular velocity or trajectory. You could potentially fire a rifle bullet at ridiculous speeds with a nearly "flat" trajectory out to a ridiculous distance.
