New Charger

Won a contest at work and got a bass pro gift card. Between that and rewards points, I paid a whopping $47. Sore pecker deal I’d say.

Haven’t shot it yet, plans were foiled by work today.

Eventually it will wear a red dot of some sort, Vortex scout scope is on it for testing purposes. Trigger is….a 10-22 trigger. One of the triggers ever made. It’s not horrible, but four pounds ain’t acceptable. For the eventual use of warding off vermin at night while camping, sure. It’s fine. But life’s too short to use poop triggers. Most likely it’ll end up with the Ruger BX trigger, which pains me to say. I can get the whole assembly for $20 more than I can get the Volquartzen hammer. And have a metal housing. That leaves me spare parts for my 10-22 rifle, parts some yahoo dremel smith modded years ago. Same guy glued his barreled action to the stock at the same time. What a goof.

Still pisses me off that I have to buy what Ruger SHOULD be putting in the guns from the factory. I’d be OK with the plastic housing, just make the trigger better. But it’s cheaper than replacing the parts I need, so crow I shall eat.

Nice! I have been quite happy with my charger, but I’m wishing I had braced it and put a rifle scope on it

Sure can't beat that price for a handy little gun that is also just fun to.shoot. some years back a yahoo on the forum talked me into fixing my own 10-22 trigger. It turned out pretty good. Did you forget how?

That's what I was thinking!

Always thought they would be fun until I had the opportunity to shoot one. Kind of a big ho hum for me. Hope you enjoy yours.

As is, it’s meh for me also.

But braces change things. Easier to hold.

I will entertain the idea. Skills have progressed since the last time.
And, if I screw up, no real loss. And I have to break it down to do the bolt hold open mod anyway.

If mine can turn out as well as it did, my guess you can make it even lighter and smoother.
BTW, thanks for that, I would have just just purchased a trigger without your encouragement

I like it as is! A fun bench pistol is not a bad thing, get a regular 10-22 if you want a rifle.

Busting clay pigeons on a berm, heck yeah.

Is that a pistol scope?

Meh. They’d make a terrible compact thing to carry in a Jeep in the desert. Probably boring to shoot also. I’m sure you don’t want one. :jedimindtrick:

It’s a long eye relief scope for a scout rifle if we are being precise, but LER is LER. 2-7 if I recall.
Works pretty decent, but as you increase power you do need to get closer to see the full picture.

You don’t want one. Hearing the bolt clack instead of the gunshot gets old FAST. Super annoying. And not needing to wear electronic muff/buds/whatever sucks too.

It’s going under the Dremel, with the assistance of the shop cat. She’s ok as a machinist, I figure she can handle a trigger job.

Shot it today, it shot well. More on that later. I simply can’t abide a 4 pound trigger. 🤮

Call me a crappy marksman, whatever. Triggers don’t HAVE to be bad.

May or may not have got a chassis for it….

The chassis.

Not bad for a CNC machined aluminum chassis. Adding stocks or braces and fore ends can get pricey however. But, for the charger you need an AR style grip. Done. Don’t need the other stuff.

Same chassis as mine. Wonder where I got that idea?.. 🤔 Big thumbs up. 👍 I just got mine with the folding stock and forend. You have the skills to make that work without the added expense.

Oh, and 22 suppressors are stupid…. They’re no fun at all. Hearing your action cycle and the bullet hitting the target is super annoying…

Turns out the cat lied on her resume’, she don’t know poop about fudge about doing a trigger job. Left me to finish.

5 hours later and it’s down to a crisp 2.5 ish pounds. I didn’t do anything with the springs. Which at this point that’s all that’s left that I can do. I did what everyone specifically says not to do, which is change the hammer/sear geometry.
On a factory set up, as you pull the trigger you are also slightly pulling the hammer back, compressing the hammer spring due to the angle of the dangle between sear and hammer. It’s for safety. It also adds pull weight. You lessen that angle till it doesn’t move the hammer backwards when you pull the trigger. No Dremel tools allowed! Files won’t cut the hardened parts, but diamond stones cut them like a hot damn.

So now I’ve got a better trigger as far as creep is concerned than I’d likely get from any of the affordable options. That’s super easy to adjust. It’s just a one shot deal. No do overs.

Hat tip to Ruger for adding a glory hole what for checking sear engagement. I don’t recall that on the older metal housing triggers, but it’s been a day or 20 years since I messed with one.

So this is very exaggerated for clarity sake, but the pink line represents the factory angle, green is the improved angle. The blue line represents where you grind off to remove creep. Allows the sear to fall off the face with less travel.

Don’t do this, you’ll end up blowing your hand off. Or something. I’m not a gunsmith. I don’t even play one on TV. Etc etc.

Results are decent. CCI Blazer ammo. “Cheap” and works awesome in my guns. Shot at 25 yards, using the included bipod. Bag on the rear. Off the hood of my truck. 10 rounds in the black square.

The 15 round mag SUCKS. 100% functional, but for an extra five rounds over a standard mag, you get to deal with a giant horse cock hanging out the bottom. You’re pretty much limited to a bipod. Further bench shooting will be done with a 10 round mag off of bags or a traditional rest.

I think there is a lot more in this gun, no question in my mind. However, when your buddies dog likes to chase bullets and you shoot and he runs to try and find them in the berm,it kind of messes up your rhythm. Shoot, yell at the dog. Shoot, yell at the dog. Etc. etc. I’m going again today to give it another try.

Excellent work on the trigger (darned cat).

Definitely looks like a shooter.

Good point, I thought that was a 25 rd mag. I think you're right about the 10 rd flush fit.

You gonna replace the safety with one of those lever thingys? I think it's a small improvement.
