Hey big al, I bought some new winchester brass in 25-20 10 or more years ago and a lot of the case necks split when fired. It is not a hot load or even close. I have wondered if I need to anneal the brass or I got a bad batch. I am interested in how you get along with yours. Still a fun thing to shoot. I had the boys shooting 100 yards and you had to wait to hear it hit the target. Thinking about that it has been over 15 years as they were pretty young.

Not Big Al but annealing the cases can’t hurt you but I’d be worried about a chamber issue. Was that the first time you had a problem with that gun?

Factory ammo had been hard to find so I have not shot it much. After I had reloads it was shot more but not hundreds. The gun is old so I suppose it could be a chamber issue but the factory ammo did not split IIRC. It is one of the few that belonged to my dad and he didn't like it so it sat leaning between the studs in the shed for many years. The barrel is not perfect but still shoots fine, now you have me worried.

I would not worry much. You could do a chamber cast and have someone open up your dies neck to match the rifle’s chamber so they do not work the brass around the neck much. But I would anneal the cases first. Again can’t hurt.

I haven't had any necks split in my Savage 23, but I did have some split when I fired them in the Marlin 1894. BUT, the Marlin's barrel was very corroded and I'm sure the chamber was bad! It' now out getting relined so I'll see what happens when I get it back!

$0.60/ea with a primer is not bad at all. I thought I was doing good when the only .35 Whelen I found was primed Hornady for $1.10ea.

Looks great! I can’t wait to get my reloading setup rolling again
