Gots more points!!

Post by Varmintmist »

Spent the last few days in NC at the Eastern Games matches. Shot the 2400 aggregate (3 x 80 shot 800 point matches) ended 26 out of 137 with 2290-58x

Day 1 I was 8th with a 767-25X. 185-4x offhand 200yd, 198-6x sitting rapid 200yd, 200-7x rapid prone at 300yd, and a hard fought 184-8x at 600. Best thing that happened on that trip was I was being scored by Brandon Green. If you compete at all in service or palma rifle you know of him. I was about 8 shots into my standing when he asked a line official if it would be ok if he gave a clinic. (Not sure how I feel about that :D ) I fight offhand a LOT so I went to the clinic that afternoon and listened. He used me as a test dummy in front of about 50 people. I changed most of the way I shot offhand that hour.

Day 2 I was 18th. Lost a lot of points standing, but there was something there. 183-1x, 199 - 7x , 193 - 7x 189 - 5x 764 - 20x

Day 3, 24th still leaking points standing 179 - 1x, 197 - 4x, 195 - 5x,188 - 3x, 759 - 13x. HOWEVER I saw the light on my last 5 standing. 10-9-10-x-10, and I was "ok, I get it"

So Leg day, the EIC where you make points towards distinguished, went real well. I wasnt first, I was third out of the non distinguished, 10th overall. 50 shot match no sighters. 200 standing, 200 sitting rapid 60 secs starting from standing, 300 prone rapid 70 sec starting from standing, 600 prone.
95 - 3x, 96 - 1x, 99 - 4x, 195 - 5x, 485 - 13x
Started out on my hind feet with a called 10 and felt relaxed the whole time.

So I picked up an 8 point leg. I need 30 and a hard leg to be distinguished and I now have 22 and 2 silver legs. 8 or 10 point leg. There are 6 point legs, bronze. 8 point legs, silver. and 10 point legs, gold. Depends on how many people are there and how you score to get the ranks. A hard leg is silver or gold because you have to be in the top 1/3 of the top 10% (IIRC) OR get a leg at the nationals.

Congratulations
I think most of us don't understand all of that, but it's plain you did well.

Hope this clears it up a bit

80 shot match = 800 possible points x3 = 2400 aggregate over 3 days. 800 possible points per day. X count used for tie breaking
EIC excellence in competition. 50 shots 500 possible points x ring used for tie breaking

The EIC match you need to be in the top 10% to earn leg points toward distinguished marksman. The top 10% is further broken down into "legs" bronze(6 point) silver(8 point) and gold(10 point) legs depending on your ranking in the top 10%. Legs are only available if there are enough shooters. https://thecmp.org/wp-content/uploads/D ... s=02022018 It takes 30 points to become distinguished and you must earn a hard leg. You can have 60 points, but if you were never in the top of the top 10% you dont "leg out". I have 2 silver legs and a bronze so even if I get nothing but bronze I leg out. There were 61 non distinguished shooters

There is no use of any rest other than a sling in any position. You are not allowed to rest the magazine on your arm in prone, and you cannot even have the sling tight around your hand in standing. You can shoot a service rifle as defined by CMP scoped to no more than 4.5x. Think stock car racing with restrictor plates. It must be in all aspects dimensionaly the same as a service rifle. You can have a better bbl, but it is the same contour, you can have a better trigger than GI no less than 4.5lb ect ect ect. You can fuel it with whatever you want though as long as its 5.56, 7.62, 30-06 In my case a National Match AR15 with a Nightforce service rifle scope, Giessele trigger, Doc jones sling, and some lead weight in an A2 stock.
Other gear that you can use is a shooting coat over a sweatshirt and a padded glove and a decent spotting scope to watch mirage do bad things to you.
