New eyes for one of my rifles...

Going back a few years.....about 2010/11 when I first made a trip to the SE, I purchased a Leupold VX3L scope which was for my TX3 in 7mm08. Some of you may not know what the 'L' means..........Here is a pic that explains it....

The 'L' series scopes had a cutout in the bottom of the scope to allow it to be mounted lower on a rifle, especially if it was a 50mm scope.
I originally wanted to buy 2, but unfortunately only found one 'L' on my trip. I did buy a second scope though, a plain VX3 4.5-14 X 50mm which I mounted on my TX3 Super Varmint in 22-250. Because it didnt have the 'cutout' I had to mount it on higher rings which wasnt a problem as the Varmint stock had an adjustable comb.

Over the past few years, some 'L' model second hand scopes have come up for sale over here ..............but Bh's son ( I nicknamed him 'Hoover' ) has beat me to the punch and now owns 3.......

Last thursday I was watching sport at 2.30am and when it finished, I logged on to a local shooting forum while I had a coffee......In the forsale section was a recent listing ( by someone who was up at 1.45am ) of a VX3L 4.5-14 X50mm scope. Knowing 'Hoover' would be tucked up in bed, I sent an email to the seller and after a couple of emails back and forth, I transferred the money into his account.

The scope arrived this morning.... ( The above pic is the scope)

Here is another pic...

The scope is in an 'as new' condition, the optics are clear, there are no marks/dents/scratches and it came with the original box and packing.

Now I have a decision to make as to which rifle will be blessed with it.....The 22-250 is without 'eyes' so my first thought is thats where it goes...but I could also play musical chairs and swap some other scopes around and put it elsewhere I guess.....

Nice score, and I still have the pic of you in my kitchen, holding your NZ passport, hanging on my wall.
Good times that I sorely miss

Can't say that I've ever looked through one of those L models. Do you see the curve at the bottom?

Thanks guys.
Here are a couple of pics of my T3 7mm08 setup. It makes it a very compact looking and handling rig......for me at least.

And here is a crappy pic from my cell phone showing the scope from the business end of the barrel and how low it is.....

Nope....the view through the scope is a normal full circle. The only problem that sometimes can happen is that with some fat suppressors, you can see the suppressor in the bottom of the scope....All my suppressors have a low profile though and none of mine do this.

I have the VXL on my 6.5 X 06. I love it! Being that I'm not a large man it helps my cheek weld low.

Nice score!

I disagree, the first time saw one of those I thought "Damn, I should have thought of that".

Sometimes a good idea is a thing of beauty all by itself.

When I first saw those I half expected a bunch of other companies to do the same. Seems like a great way of fixing an actual problem. I imagine Leupold got the design patented and locked everyone else from executing it and that kind of fed it's own demise because gun folks don't like "new" unless everyone else goes along.
