Texas Hill Country Floods

Some of y’all know that I grew up right in the center of where all the flooding is happening. The Guadalupe rose 29 feet in meter minutes, and there were reports of a “wall of water” coming down stream in the narrow sections. Some areas reported 20 inches of rain in under 2 hours. The main bridge to my hunting lease got hit hard by debris and will probably be closed for a long time.

I’m on the road with the wife and kiddo, but finally catching up on the texts, calls and news reports. Absolutely horrible, and worse than the ‘87 flood that killed a bunch. I see places I know, and a place that used to be owned by a family member, in national news stories destroyed. The worst is the kids at the summer camps on the river. Hell, I worked at a couple of those camps when I was in school.

Finally got in touch with all my family, and everyone is fine. But there are three people I know that were killed.

Prayers out to my hometown.

Looks like the greater flood plain got rapidly and thoroughly scoured. Got some dread for the final toll on this one.

Just Prayed, Zee said they did not have any rain in his neck of the woods, the stories are unbelievable, some Boy Scouts kept their heads and made it out of their camp

Remember the bridge I mentioned at the beginning of the thread? It’s like a half mile long and probably 40 feet over the water. Here is a 38 minute video of the water raising up to the point it crests the roadway and then a freaking house hits the bridge. This is just unimaginable how much water came through

I was wondering if the 30+ ft. flood surge I was reading about was really true.

People have been criticizing folks for camping on the flood plain, but at that level, where can you go?

Absolutely horrific.

If she's like the teachers at the K-12 school district I worked for, she's just the one dumb enough to get caught.
Lots of her coworkers still share her views.

Absolutely.

Finally back from the worst timed family vacation I've ever planned. Catching up on the news and just horrified by it all. My sister (who has been interviewed by both The Weather Channel and PBS) works across the street from the courthouse in Kerrville, and texted me last night that there are some crazies (from California) on the courthouse square yelling at people that "Texas got what it deserved". Kinda hoping they get hit by lightning since it is raining there again.

That’s a VERY good way to get your ass whipped. Like I’m surprised it hasn’t happened.

The old "Hangin' Tree" in Kerrville used to be about a block from my mom's house (seriously). Unfortunately, it died and fell down about 30 years ago.

I’d have the community pick a new one and everyone chip in for a “group lunch” for the local Sheriff and PD during the event…
