Hair-net
Hair-net
Or Hornet. Got my Winchester 43 back from the smith. The trigger is still heavy, but it breaks clean. I don't think it could be easier, given the trigger configuration. So here it is...ugliness personified. The wood is good, if unremarkable. Blue is 98%, and looks good. It's d&T, not from the factory apparently. The rifles were made from 1949 to 1955 or thereabouts. Stock is dry looking.
Re: Hair-net
Doesn't look bad to me. A little TLC on the stock maybe.
Hope it shoots good for you

I don’t know, I think that stock has some character

Just needs a little paste wax, otherwise I like it, especially the rear sight!!

Re: Hair-net
Interesting figure in the buttstock. I’d try and polish that up and see how it turns out.
How does it shoot?

Re: Hair-net
I haven't shot it yet, but I'll bet with that heavy trigger it's not a tack driver. Although I can generally shoot around a bad trigger. I found a bottle of Tru Oil, and I'll either redo the stock or just buff it out. Can't find my wax.
PS: I did find my Howard's Feed and Wax. The stock looks a lot better now.

Looks fine to me
Not sure why you said apparently not D&T from the factory.
Initially they weren't but yours is late enough to have been.

Re: Hair-net
Guy at the Winchester Collector's board said that if the rear action frame near the bolt handle if factory D&T the action would be straight, and if not the action would be beveled. Mine is beveled. Of course, that's only an informed opinion. Whoever D&T the gun knew what they were doing. No sign of it being mounted; no discoloration or marks. I realize I'm not being clear on the action question, the guy have photographs showing it. I don't know when the gun was made, I'd say around 50 or 51. The bluing is exceptional. Goes to show you what was considered average to "economy" grade back then as opposed to now.

Oh, I really like that rifle! The stock is great and the rear sight is fantastic!
Re: Hair-net
It's been bedded. I look forward to shooting it. Trigger is probably 6-8 pounds, but clean.
