Had a great time at Camp Perry

Post by Varmintmist »

Shot a lot.

did the 2400 aggregate, 3, 80 shot matches came in 89 out of 348 with 2308 and 65x

Made a pick up team for the 4 man team match. Literally showed up with 2, added a third and picked up a fourth by text. We did 25th out of 57 teams and had a blast. A 50 (possible 500) shot match and 3 of us shot over 480

Had the weekend off, which was OK, because it was freaking hot. 3rd day of the agg my truck said 106 until it was moving, then it went down to ambient... 96...

Started in on Mon with the Presidents 100. 30 shot match 10 standing at 200, 10 rapid prone at 300, and 10 slow prone at 600. Cut to make the top 100 was 287-6x. I was 159 with 285-5x. Gets tight nearer the top.

Then the NTI National trophy individual. Same as a EIC match with a LOT of people so a lot of legs given out. I shot a 476-15x which would have gotten me points, however I already had enough leg points so it is just me against me getting better. The cut was 476-12x. A local guy finally got his hard leg and earned his distinguished badge at Perry, pretty cool. We both walked the stage to get them that Fri.

Found out that I was on the team for the 6 man team match, the night before. It was fun, but the weather blew, and blew hard. It was actually postponed a day. Standing it was a fight to get an 8. I was on my target, the wind blew my sight picture to the target on my left, I got out of the rifle and took a breath, came down and saw the center and squeezed,..... on the target to my right... I was not alone.. We still did OK over the middle of the pack.

My last day there was Rattle Battle, NTIT. WHAT A FREAKING BLAST. You have to have one newbie and that was me. Ok, you have 8 targets, 6 shooters, 384 rounds. No scoring rings, only hits count. Start at 600 where each hit counts more, 50 seconds of target exposure. I hammered. 24 hits out of 26 at 600, 20 out of 20 at 500, and 6 out of 8 at 300. Again, very cool, getting in unfamiliar territory and shooting well, nicely done👍

Sounds like a blast.

If you don't mind me asking, approximately how many rounds of which cartridges did you fire for the trip? I'm guessing 223 for most and 30-06 for the "Rattle Battle", but that's just a guess.

223 across the board.

268 77grSMK at 2 and 300 yards and 136 80.5 Bergers for 600 and whatever I shot at rattle battle where they were loaded for the team and were 77SMK

It doesnt seem like that much over the given time.
A 80 round match starts at 7 for squadding and they put 3-4 relays of shooters through being called to the line, a prep time, in this case 2 min for 2 sighters, then 20 min to shoot each relay. Then called to the line for sitting, prep, 2 min for sighters, then 2- 10 round rapid fire strings in 60 seconds, broken by a couple min. Then get 400 people back to 300 with gear and all that is needed, including center line tower and porta potties (aka "the House of Blues". Then 3-4 relays for prep, 2 min sighters, and 2 strings of prone rapid. Followed by moving from 300-600 then 3-4 relays of 2 sighters, ans 20 shots in 20 min per relay. We got off the line at about 2(ish) pm. Since its all on E targets, it rolls along pretty well, but there are E target glitches as well as the inevitable boat or jetski in the impact area. The temp on Tuesday was 89 and the temp on Thursday was 96 ambient with about 90% humidity

Not exactly like sitting at a bench and blasting away.
