Trail Boss available at Natchez

By the time you read this it’ll probably be gone but check. Midway sold out in 15 mins and so did Brownells. I managed to score two cans from Brownells and 3 from Natchez just now at 12:30 AM my time. Natchez is doing no hazmat if you order over $99. Haven’t seen it at Grafs yet.

I’m doing small orders so others can get some too.

https://www.natchezss.com/imr-trail-bos ... tion-hdtb1

It’s popping up in small quantities and only the small can but it’s coming back. Set your email notices for it on all the usual places you buy and pay attention.

It disappears FAST!!!! Almost like playing Whack-A-Mole... I have all my email notifications flashing alarms on my phones, iPads and MAC! I caught Natchez Last night just after midnight, Just lucky I was up and watching TV with wife who couldn't;t sleep. I reached for my wallet so fast I almost fell off the bed. Wife got a good laugh...

My plan is to tumble and prime a bucket of .45 Colt brass I have in the garage now and load up my whole puppy of Winter SASS matches ammo in one sitting using one of my SILs electric Dillons.

BTW I've heard that they are going to amp up production of it and sometime in October/November we'll see it in large quantities.

Being new to reloading, why is Trailboss so popular besides the price?

It's also a high fill powder so there is zero risk of overcharging especially when trying to produce mild loads in the older cartridges like .45 Colt and some of the bigger rifle cases. And it has proven rather consistent, accurate and flows well.

I hear it’s also a great powder for subsonic loads for that .300 favorite of yours cartridge. 😁

Ah, that would have been ideal when I make sub loads in 223.

Yeah, I made some 223 subs, and it sounded like a staplegun through the suppressor.

Another reason it’s popular is you pretty much can’t blow up a gun with it. If it fits in the case, it should work.

If I recall correctly the method to figure out acceptable charge weights is to fill the case to 100% to the base of the bullet to get your max charge weight, and then 70% of that for the minimum charge weight. It is a powder that is not to be used in a compressed load per Hodgdon. I have not personally tried pushing beyond 100% fill, but I have gone below the 70% fill before.

It is a fun powder to use as long as you are not interested in high velocity. Great powder for subsonic loads, and even better for poop and giggles loads in rifles. I want to say that the 100% case fill load in my little .458 resulted in pushing a 405gr lead bullet to right around 1000 fps. Comical to shoot and probably hearing safe in my rifle.

That .458 load sounds like fun actually! I might try to find some 45-70 loads for my trap door when I get enough of it on hand 👍

It’s my favorite in 45-70. Fatass bullets at turtle speeds are a hoot.

Keep in mind it is a .458x1.8. .45-70 should have more capacity and potentially more velocity. I dont recall ever trying trail boss in the .458 WM.
