I finished up the slab side MKII Ruger with a Lobos RDS mount, new Holosun 507K, moved my favorite Hogue grips then laser bore sighted at 25yds.

Time for the range! First off the bag rest @ 25yds. Beautiful group of 10 I could cover with a dime. Just needed a few clicks to zero. Already has a 2lb Voquartsen kit with a short takeup and crisp break just enough over travel to reset evey time Next magazine they were even tighter and dead on. Terrific!

Now time to move off the rest. Out of 10 rounds 2 were on the paper (6in X 6in) looked like a loose choke shotgun pattern.
Check my grip, posture, trigger everything should work. Moved back to 10yds and Im 4in low awful

Now after multiple range trips nothing has improved. Shot off the rest today. The rig is near perfect. I just cant seem to shoot this thing! Argghh

that doesn't make sense. Did you go back to the bench to see if it's not a mechanical issue?

Do you drink energy drinks?

Sounds like a confidence issue. Start at 3 yards until your satisfied with you results THEN start moving back.

I’d also do a ton of dry firing at home but not with the Ruger pistol. Just something useless like a Glock

I am suspecting a loose barrel lug. When its propped on the bag its tight. Hand held its not. 4in out @ 25yds only requires about 1/20 in movement at the muzzle. Hand held its always low

Wait. You’re resting the barrel on the bag? Ok then maybe you mught have a mechanical issue.

I am going to check the barrel lug and rear main pin later today.
I also have another rest that doesnt contact the barrel. The one i was using sits just ahead of the trigger guard and i thought it was only in contact with the frame. I dont often use a rest.
With the rds and the laser bore sighter it should be simple to detect any movement if i get it clamped down.

Then again it could be me? But a couple weeks ago i was shooting the 5in barrel ruger and holding 2in @ 25yds consistently. Unfortunately I sold that MKii What was I thinking!!

Start close and work back. Confidence begets confidence.

Found it!
Frame lug is not seating. About .004 vertical movement and a bit less to the right with finger pressure. Not exact I just used a feeler gauge. Cleaned the lug and mating barrel area with CLP and an air hose. Reassembled no change! This one is going back to Ruger!

The prior MKII had a machined frame lug this one looks cast.
