First time with a 50

Post by JunkCollector »

Had a bit of a surprise at the range.
Guy had a 50 BMG and didn't mind sharing.
Was actually very gracious.
My son touching one off.
I thought he did well.

Video is not working for me anyway. Fun opportunity though. Got to shoot one years ago at a range in Illinois. They had a variety of NFA and oddities you could shoot for a fee. The fifty was a very large single shot anti personnel type weapon but it was still fun to fire.

Everyone needs to shoot an.50cal!! Once in their life.
The recoil doesn’t hurt because the rifles tend to be heavy. But, the blast and give you shell shock after several rounds.
Good for him!!!

Did he blink? Shooting a .50 with ought blinking and being able to watch you shot impact are good signs to shooting welln

I worked for me, you're learning ;)

That was cool, I'd like to try that too.

You know you need one. Imagine the possibilities.

Nice, the dust from the muzzle blast will stay with you awhile

Definitely one of the chits you need to punch out of your Man Card.

I did my rangemaster school at one of the agency's ranges in the hills above L.A. Busy class; a lot to cover; not a lot of time to cover it in. . .

. . . but one of the local movie gun rental companies on a time crunch needed a place to function test a Ma Deuce before transporting it to a far-distant set.

We paused the class and nobody cared.

A .50 is just like a boat or airplane. It’s best if your buddy owns it. 😬

Fun to touch off, but not something I’d want to own.

Absolutely
This guy told me how many rounds he had for it.
I did the math it equaled a new car.
He didn't look any different than you or me.

I got to shoot Mike's (RIP) a few times. It was fun watching Mythaeus' small wife shooting it.
My truck was maybe 10 yards away.. after watching how the windshield was being flexed by the muzzle blast, I moved it.
The blast also blew my hat off while I was shooting pics

I’ve fired a 50BMG a few times. It is “envigorating”… but the problem has always been the setup. You have to get so much space and distance to really make it shine.

Even with 200 acres, it’s hard to find the room to shoot it
