My SIL has a decent gun collection and yet, he’s lacking a classic S&W .357 Magnum revolver in his collection. I, on the other side, seem to have a small surplus of them. He had expressed interest in my somewhat recently acquired 66-1 and it just so happens I was strongly pondering a locally sourced 681-1 I found in pristine shape that just needs a good scrubbing as you can see.

In case you’re not a Smith & Wesson model #s geek, the 681 is a fixed sight 686 and I’ve always thought of it as the ultimate rugged use Smith revolver in the .357 chambering. A stainless gun with no compromises in the right size and weight to be a durable .357 for field carry.

So we swapped guns! He’s getting the 66-1 for the cost of the 681 which I negotiated to a NICE “right price” so we both win
No need for her to be just like the other working gals just because she’ll be my carry around “ranch gun”. She’s going to get a mild polish job, my ranch brand will be laser engraved on the side plate, maybe my initials on the back strap or grips, and she’ll be sporting the pre-ban elephant Ivory grips I’ve been looking to place on the right gun. She’ll be riding around in an El Paso Saddlery crossdraw Tom Threeperson field holster.

I'm a fan of the L frames, I have a 6" 686-3 that Kaleb tuned and I've had D&T'd and a 4" I've only changed the grips on

Yeah I haven’t had one in a while and I missed them.

Me too. With some accurate ammo, it's surprising how far you can score hits with a setup like this one. I have a lot of handguns with adjustable sights that I never touch after the initial setup.

Nice looking rig buddy.
I've always disliked the bronze Tyler's but could picture one on that.
