1885 low wall in 22 K Hornet.
1885 low wall in 22 K Hornet.
I ran into the deal of the decade today. I went to the shop on the way home. I walked the used rack and spotted an old Low Wall. The tag read 22 k hornet. I was shocked and I read the price. The action is tight, the bore is bright and shiny with sharp rifling. The barrel was drilled in about 8 places for various scope bases somewhere along the life of the rifle. I found a set of weaver bases that work…. Nice old walnut stocks….. all for $135 yup 135 bucks! Damn I’m happy! A freaking Low Wall in K Hornet? Sign me up!!!! I almost broke my arm to get to my wallet.

If I didn't know better, I would think you changed the price tag. Excellent find, Congrats

Re: 1885 low wall in 22 K Hornet.
So how old is that? Is that an original chambering for that gun?
Wood and action looks pretty fair, the end of the barrel has some ugly on it. But for $135…..the whole damn thing could be covered in ugly!

According to the serial number it was made in 1898. The K Hornet was always a custom job. The Hornet was an update of a 22wcf the action is factory, the wood and barrel are a custom job at some point in time. The action alone is worth several times what I paid!

Dang, you have free reign to molest it any way you want to since it already has been.

Now, bet you can’t find a martini Henry cadet in .22 hornet for $135.

Yeah you suck. Had I been there I might have challenged you to a gentlemanly roshambo in the parking lot over that gun.

NICE! Be prepared for annealing work with the cases. . .and be prepared to lose a few along the way. The previous owner of my Winchester 43 wasn't thoughtful enough to re-stamp his barrel, so I thought it was a straight Hornet when I bought it, but the cases came out "Improved" so down the rabbit hole I went. I think I ended up with Prvi cases for that one, but at any rate, Hornet brass is generally thin. I had a good number of ruptures at the shoulder.
I was royally pissed to find that the Italian 1885's go to half cock after closing (a deal breaker for what I wanted), so my dream of one in .357 Mag came to nothing. Might be a good conversion notion if you decide Hornets ain't your thing.

I’ve wanted a Hornet for a while now… I hope it shoots!! It may get a refresh but for now it’s as it stays…Bigslug wrote: ↑Wed Dec 03, 2025 1:06 pm NICE!
