Sad indeed. He had a very long career from 1960’s until recent years. He was one of those actors that in a role you think I know someone like that.
A few favorites are Gus in Lonesome Dove, Frank Burns Mash, and Tender Mercies. There are many others of course.

He will always be best remembered as Gus for me.
The scene when he takes out the Buffalo hunter with his Henry is easily in my top 5 movie scenes. It has been a favorite since I was a a young teenager.
