Here are a couple. One is a cigarette gun, I'm assuming. Got the cute bolt handle, checkering is good, got a recoil pad. Sometime after
WW 2, a nice gun. Cigarette guns don't bring much money and are well-made in general and are great bang for the buck.



THis one is a guild built rifle from pre WW 1, in 7.9 J. It's a hunting rifle, not much fancy. The barrel is ribbed, the Lyman sight if factory installed and the forestock is narrow.

What makes something a "Cigarette Gun?" I am unfamiliar with the term.

Guild gun with factory lyman I'm confused about ?

I checked out the Lymans on guild guns with the German Gun collector's forum when I got mine, which is the same as the one on yours. They were put on guild guns back in the day according to them.

What the first chambered for 8x57 or 30-06

30-06. The other is 7.9 J 9 x 57 J, which limits it. Bullets hard to find, loaded ammo impossible to find. I finally found a die det for it. I wish it were 7x57. Most cigarette guns are in 30-06, if sold to GIs.

I'm working from memory here so someone double check me, but I think so.

Cigarette rifles are the best bang for your buck. The workmanship far excels the price. They're mostly in 06 and 8mm (rarely), sold originally to a GI for a carton of Camels. If you know a dealer who is a buddy, you can get theme for $250 more or less. Your dealer pays about half that for whomever he buys the gun off. More or less.

The "odd caliber" cartridge rifles, based on 30-06 cases will bring more money as they were commissioned by GIs who were shooters and had a couple of cartons of Camels to trade on. I suppose they got more expensive the further they got from WW 2 and desperate German gunsmiths. I wish someone would do a book on cigarette rifles and unsigned makers.
