In the interest of leaving no 22 untouched it came home.

I already have one in 22 hornet so knew quite a bit of them beforehand.

One thing I find interesting is the barrel and receiver are machined from one chunk of steel.
They have very nice triggers and shoot extremely well.

I like the bolt design on the 22 rimfire with the firing pin strike at 6 o'clock.
We went right to the range.
It Shoots about an inch high with no elevation.
The mag I had wasn't quite working so it was used single shot.
It fired and extracted perfectly.

Nice!!!!! I have that rifle in 25-20 and its a hoot to shoot.

It definitely will.
These have a really good reputation to stand up to any 22 made

I'm not up to irons anymore....but should at least get an idea of what it could do.

Never seen that before, that is a pretty cool design

Not uncommon. What ammo were you shooting? These things were made before modern .22 ammo and sights and usually accuracy reflect that. I keep a big supply of Standard Velocity and "Quiet" CCI ammo just for these old .22s. Seems to work great in the older guns like my 30s-50s Mossbergs.

By the way on the battle scars on the stock, I normally get a great result with 0000 steel wool with a bit of Howard Restore-A-Finish. It does not strip the original finish, it just softens it a bit to it can spread and cover the dings. The stuff is a miracle in a can and widely used by antique dealers because it makes the wood look MUCH better by evening the finish without getting rid of the original finish or character of the piece.

It's an amalgamator it softens the original finish where you spread and even it back out.

Kind of a bummer is
I was comparing it to the hornet which is scoped but it lacks the holes it has for a sidemount.

I believe the older guns don’t have the scope mount holes. I’m pretty sure my 25-20 does not.

An inch high? At what range? If at 25, you may be on for 50.

Is the rear sight leaf all the way down against the barrel, or is the elevator holding it clear by a skosh? If you have clearance, you could file that last notch in the elevator down to drop the sight the necessary amount.

It was 25 yards my swag on the first couple shots was about am inch high with the elevator in.
I took it out and it didn't seem to change much or at all.

I then just aimed about an inch low and. Consistently started to hit golf balls.
I guess I'm not the only one who likes shooting them as there are most often plenty to plug at.

The wood is walnut but I didn't see anything calling out to me......you must make me shine.

I'll have to shoot this one more to figure out just what I want to do.
See just how close it is on paper.

Some options I was thinking.
It has two tapped holes on the back of the receiver
Use the larger and add one forward of the Ejection port.
Put on a rail and mount a scope.

File the rear sight groove down a touch.
Find another rear with the notch a bit lower.

If it Shoots super accurate I'm leaning towards the scope.

If you find it consistently shoots high I'd go the file/cold blue route first. Takes just a minute, cost basically nothing, does not detract from the value of the rifle and gives you time to "think about it".

I’m a big fan of expediency

Took her out again with my youngest son.
I had him shoot first as his eyes have to be better than mine.
Put a little red spot about the size of a pinky fingernail in a white circle.
Put it out at 15 yards...yeah I know but it was the distance I could see the spot well enough to aim.

His first shot was dead center.
I was like WTH
He then shot 2 more...Both an inch high.
OK weird

I then fired 3 all in the spot.
So no filing was necessary
The rear sight was just quite deceiving where it looked like it was settled when it actually has one more step down.

It's a bit different than the norm.
It's like a very mini buckhorn
Initially I was just putting the ball in the V even with the top.
Looked right
It will actually settle down farther in the v
Once known it's easy....lol

I'm going to have to dig ut mine and check that out.
