Well............apart from opening weekend I didnt get out again.......and here is why......
Pics of the transom of the duck boat.....
A closer look.............
I was aware that the transom had a slight bend in it, which is why I got some extra bracing welded to the inside of the outboard well;
When I was cleaning the boat after opening weekend I noticed a crack in the aluminum plate on the back of the transom..........but I had already made plans to add one of these https://promtparts.co.nz/products/100-701100 ............so I figured I would get the transom straightened, the trim and tilt bracket fitted and a plate on the inside of the transom....
Spoke to a friend of mine who builds aluminum boats that regularly goes on charters with us and he said to bring it to his workshop and he would look at it....Duly did that, he gave me an approximate cost and said he would have it done in 7-10 days....I pointed out that the duck season was only 6 weeks and he reassured me it would be done.
Rang him the following week to see how it was progressing and he said he hadnt got around to it as he was tied up displaying one of his 36' catamarans at the NZ Boat show.......
He said he would get around to it in a few days........You can see where this is going....
Didnt hear back from him and after another 7-8 days I texted him.......Once again I got another excuse and he promised it would be ready by the end of the week......
The duck season in our area was due to finish on the 14th June....so I texted him on the 4th june to remind him of the finish date and find out any progress.............never got a reply back......so I rang and he wouldnt answer his mobile.....
Have tried getting in touch 4-5 times since but no luck....
I have been up to his factory 3 times ....the problem is its in a rural area , surrounded by high fences with razor wire and a security gate with video/ intercom and he is either not there or he wont open the gate....and you cant see the workshop from the road as it is surrounded by bush.
So apart from opening weekend I havent been out hunting........and for the first time since I started hunting with my father 65 years ago I have missed the last weekend.....
I can live with that......but what really pisses me off is that I had given an undertaking to take a 15 yr old son of a friend of mine out duck hunting before he goes into surgery to have his spine realigned. (This kid is mad keen on all things hunting) I had already taken him out deer hunting and managed to get him into position to drop a nice spiker at 110m and, as I knew he would be in traction for 4-6mths I wanted to give him a few more memories before he had the operation.
So, my apologies for lack of any further reports..........and when I finally catch up with this guy there will be a lot of sailors language.
End of Duck season report......
Re: End of Duck season report......
Well crap, extra horsepower broke the boat!

Does the guy with your boat locked behind a gate realize how far away you are capable of hitting a head size target?
Just kidding of course, but a business like that just sucks.
Would be nice to find it fixed with a sorry it took so long no charge. That's what a good business owner would do

Re: End of Duck season report......
Well, I did run into a submerged log at full throttle on the last day of 2025 which caused the old outboard to kick up pretty strongly and that may have contributed to the problem
