Lose the grips and I'm probably there.
That Pic rail is even low enough you could probably even red dot it and maybe still have backup irons visible in the window.
Now. Let's do the same layout on a GP-100 or 686.

I see the appeal but that is a vary crowded niche market already.

My LGS won’t carry them or sell them, they are horribly unreliable and break most of the time.

My issue is I can replicate the gun with a used 7.5" Super Blackhawk, a rail from Brownels and ugly rubbers from eBay for way less and have a proven platform. I would have thought someone in sales/marketing at Chiappa would have figured that out.

They definitely figured it out, they're just banking on other people not figuring it out...

There is that, and why would you mill that much metal off a .44 Mag cylinder?!?!?!?
My favorite part of the "article" (supplied by Chiappa PR folks for sure) is "As the “S.A. 1873” part of the name implies, the Black Thunder is based on the classic Colt Single Action Army revolver, with a solid frame with a swingout loading gate and a barrel mounted ejector rod. From there,
the revolver goes in a unique direction that only Chiappa could engineer."
And then they proceed to describe a Ruger BH with a "tensioned barrel system that uses a steel inner liner within an aluminum housing", which I'm sure makes second shot recovery a pipe dream at best. Betcha this one is an RDS and scope killer... I guess it could be of use to handgun hunters desiring basically a single shot and minimum carry weight.

I like weird guns, and I could really get excited about this in .22 LR... With that said, for an optics equipped revolver I am very content with my .357 Redhawk as a potential host.
Also pay more attention to your phone... of all the people I shouldn't have to say that to!

Since it takes Ruger Blackhawk grips, it needs this:
