Something a bit More Modern for a Change!

I thought I would drag this out of the gun cabinet (sorry for poor pictures). A Beretta EELL Model Diamond Pigeon in 20 bore. Not a true sidelock but side plated. Barrels are 29 1/2 inch and this a fixed choke model with Improved Cylinder and Half Choke and has a selective safety. Weight is just a 1/2 ounce over 6 pounds. The chamber length is 3 inches but there is no way I would want to fire magnum loads out of it; nor do I need too! One ounce and under are fine by me. I obtained this example as a used gun and I wonder if originally it was a special order as it has a straight hand stock rather than the half pistol grip that is the norm. I rather think that over/under smaller bore guns look quite elegant with a straight stock. I sometimes take it for a round of sporting clays but its main use is for shooting wood pigeon where a faster handling gun is an advantage. See, I do have the odd modern gun in the collection.

I'm impressed! That is a fine shotgun  . I've never seen a firearm with a wood butt plate. Are you using it for hunting or sporting clays? Do you have the 28 gauge barrel also?

That exact gun is in my bucket list if I could figure out any way to talk myself into it. Beretta shotguns fit me well and I love their handling. But nowadays I don’t have much time/use for my scatterguns.

Trap or sporting clays league, couple hours a week and 12-16 week season. And, you are way past due to buy a hunting license and go for a walk.

There's a few leagues around here I've been toying with joining. Unfortunately my schedule won't guarantee consistent participation.

Yes, the butt plate is just wood. Not an extension as such as it was made like that. Sadly I don't have the 28 bore barrels although they did do two barrel 20/28 bore sets. Being machine made I suppose it's not out of the question to try to buy a set of 28's. You've got me thinking now. I mainly use it for shooting wood pigeon but take it for sporting clays as much for a bit of practice as much as anything.

Yes I am... SIL and I had been discussing just buying a real portable trap thrower that I could lug around in the back of the Jeep. Maybe it's time I just look for a local club. Don;t know I can commit to a lease but weekly shooting is not out of the question once things settle down with Daughter's return to work.

The league I am in you just have to register 2 rounds a month, shooting a double in one night is a thing, we can shoot as many rounds as we want, only your 2 best scores are counted. I try and shoot once per week weather permitting, sometimes I just shoot with whoever is is shooting that night, not necessarily a team mate.

That's actually a cool way of doing it. My old club in NY we shot every week but not for score just for personal practice so it was not mandatory to show up. Then we would have club matches every quarter and a yearly with a party. It was a lot of fun and my wife, mother-in-law and daughter all loved it.
