That's actually a tool for maintenance. Inside there are several extra screws and bits for maintenance as well as a few little doo-dads in case you lose a pin or stuff...

Yup. Seems so. But it's a pretty small pistol. It's ambi and there is another slide stop on the other side just like it. It seems long. But it's just one of the differences between it and the SIg it sorta copied...

Unlike the Glock, there is a mono-block internal that the slide rides on. Very tight. I haven't taken it to the range yet, but the reported accuracy is supposed to be very good. The trigger is really good. A little take up and a crisp let off. Reset is short. Sights are taller than tipical and really stand out.

To right handed people, ambi means “poop I don’t need that gets in my way”

That's the point. It doesn't get in the way. The "shelf" on the top of the slide stop is nearly nonexistent. That's why it's so long. Rather than a smaller spot with a more pronounced shelf for thumb purchase, this is nearly flat against the side of the gun. It offers a negligible addition to the overall width of the gun. So it needs to have a larger area for the thumb to make contact leverage. It doesn't get in the way at all. You don't even feel it unless you need to.

If I were in the market for a new range toy or gamer gun, the Canik might be under consideration. Looks good.

I’d have to feel it for myself.
But, I worship at the altar of Saint Gaston of Perfection. It’s gonna be hard (impossible) to get me to change.

I don't "hate" Glocks. One of the most accurate semi-autos I ever fired was a .40 Glock Long Slide. You simply could not shoot it poorly. But I have my prejudices. Take the French for instance. I've never forgiven them for kicking us out in the 60s. So I'll never go to France. Take Chrysler. They went bankrupt in the 70s, the US bailed them out with loans and then the government paid the loans by purchasing the K-Car abominations they made that turned out to be 50K mile cars. So I'll never buy a Chrysler. Then there's Glock. Having worked in thermo plastic injection molding industry, I know that it took about a buck to produce a Glock frame and when they first came out, their price was wholly inconsistent with production costs. Then the provided free guns to hollywood and hugely discounted weapons to every friggin police department in the country, but charged the casual gun owner a premium. They could have made a mint charging half the price. But they were all the rage. So, I won't buy a Glock. They don't need my money and they won't miss me.

Kind of similar situation for me. When you factor in holsters, mags, tools, etc, I don't shoot well enough for switching from Glock to make a difference to me. The cost of getting set up again is better spent in ammo, classes, and match fees.

I can appreciate that. Of course as you know the plastic to make the part is but a small part of an injection molding process.
But all “shenanigans” aside, I’m still a big fan boy of Mr Glock . Make something, market something, get filthy stinking rich. Dump your ugly hag of a first wife, and be banging a supermodel half your age (who cares if she’s a gold digger when you’re a billionaire?) when you’re in your 90’s?

Sign. Me. Up.

Back to the actual subject….

How much was that kit, and what are your impressions? Capacity, details, etc…?

It comes with all the tools, a holster, mag loader and doo dads...

The kit and gun was $439.
The capacity is one 12 round mag and one 15 round mag.

Range session today.
It didn't like semi-wadcutter reloads.
It fed flawlessly with ball.
It didn't like to chamber the first round of hollow points from the mag if the slide stop was used to release the slide.
But, if I racked the slide it was flawless.
Accuracy was 3" at 15 yards, a little left of center and perfect for elevation.
Recoil was noticeable, but recovery was easy. Muzzle flip was not noticeable. It seemed to naturally come back on target.
Grip texture was adequate. No sore spots on the palm or elsewhere like I had with a "keltec" some years back.
100 rounds and no unusual wear on the frame rails or polymer.
It feels a lot like my XD-S and is almost exactly the same size.
It actually fits in my XD-S holster perfectly so I didn't even use the one that came with the kit.

Nephew has one in FDE. Seems like a nice gun.

I'm with CPJ on ambi controls. My R-51 has an ambi magazine release and I'm always pressing the thing from the right side with my firing grip. I probably should get another release button, file down the right side of it flush, and install it.

This one is not automatically ambi on the slide release. You have to change it.
